Duxford May Bimbles ~ *UPDATE 6~24May18*
A bit of 'Over the Fence' photography to start the day as ARCo engineers were having a hangar shuffle before the museum opened and the hangar doors were closed by the time the museum did open. A team from RAF Marham were beavering away in hangar 4 putting the missing pieces onto the GR.4, and the Catalina was out of hangar 2, again, and was due to go flying but developed an engine problem. The MAGPAS Air Ambulance, based at RAF Wyton, dropped in for fuel and Harvard 'TAZ' was doing a spot of pilot training. In the order taken.

Nice as usual Brian. Nice to see the Magpas helicopter. I used to be a First Responder with them when I was younger. Only time I felt that I was doing something useful for society!!.

Keep up the good work. Any news on the Beaufighter, anywhere near flying or a date set? Shame there's been no progress on the Firefly, would love to see that up and about too.
In this world there's two kinds of people, my friend. Those with loaded guns, and those who dig. You dig.

Hi Brian
Nice start to the May Bimbles... you may be able to help me actuallly... I passed by Duxford yesterday morning at about 09.30 and the Devon was parked up in the aera at the side of the M11.
When passing by at 13.30pm on my way back up... I noticed there was a second aircraft now parked beside the Devon... looked like a Spit?
Could you help with an ID and a serial if poss.
Many thanks for your help.
See you for a quick chat at the May Show if your there on the Saturday.

Tim - Can't help you as I wasn't there then but a silver Percival Prentice/G-APJB has been parked next to it for a while now. Should be in on the Saturday of the May show, see you then.
Sparts99 - They are trying to track down engines for the Beaufighter and then it should become airworthy. The Firefly is one of the 'In-house projects' and they are only worked on as and when they are not working on customers aircraft.

Re: Duxford May Bimbles ~ *UPDATE 1~03May18*
A quiet-ish morning at Duxford. A pair of Chipmunks flew several display routines over the airfield and a T.76 Firefly flew in from the south did a practice display and flew south again when finished. The Apache helicopter that broke and spent the night in AirSpace, was towed out onto the jet pan and what sounded like an APU fired up so that the Army Air Corps engineers could see what the problem was. I believe it's now back in AirSpace and the Bremont Broussard/G-HOUR flew in and parked up at ARCo. in the order taken.

Re: Duxford May Bimbles ~ *UPDATE 2~05May18*
Another war bird Saturday at Duxford. Started when the museum opened and P-47D Thunderbolt/'Nellie' arrived from Sywell and parked up while the owner had a look around it. Stu Goldspink took it flying later. Having arrived in the P-47, Richard Grace flew out to Sywell later in the Hawker Fury. The Blenheim went up for a practice display as did the Catalina before departing to spend the weekend at Abingdon for their air show. The Yak-3 had a problem with it's undercarriage just after taking off and flew back to Sywell wheels down. Despite being a Bank Holiday weekend it was wall to wall blue sky and sunshine.

Re: Duxford May Bimbles ~ *UPDATE 3~10May18*
A bit of a training day at Duxford. Started with Harvard/TAZ doing circuits with the pilot then moving on to P-51D Mustang/Sharkmouth and then another pilot took the P-51D up later. TFC had their Hawk 75 and Harvard flying several times and their Nimrod was out for an engine run. There were two other Harvard's flying with FE511 parking on the grass outside ARCo and the Classic Wings yellow RCAF marked Harvard up and down most of the day. In the order taken.

Re: Duxford May Bimbles ~ *UPDATE 4~18May18*
A short visit to Duxford today despite plenty going on in the sunshine with pilots and war birds out on handling flights prior to departing for air shows like the Twochon and Spitfire FR XIV which went off to La Ferté-Alais.

Another glorious sunny war bird Saturday at Duxford. As the wind was favoring the 06 end of the runway, I spent over 5 hours on the tank bank overdosing on Vitamin D. In the order taken.
