RAF Cottesmore - The Final Weeks Pt.1

Post by Blue Diamond » Wed Feb 14, 2018 12:11 pm

A much missed base and much missed aircraft.
Taken on a mostly dull October 18th 2010.

So many memories from a great base :thumb:

very nice set :thumb:

So sad both the base (in fighter use) and the aircraft type have gone :'(

Lovely set, and the last Harrier shot seems to reflect the end of the whole sad saga... :thumb:

Superb set. I spent five years at Cottesmore, on IV(AC)Sqn, undoubtedly the best days of my RAF career. I miss the Base and the aircraft dearly. Despite leaving there in 2005 and the Harrier being out of service for seven years, I can still here that unmistakable whine in every photograph. Thank you very much for posting.

Lovely shots to remind me of happy times at the crash gate. I used to talk to the old guy who was always there, logging every aircraft movement. Does anybody remember his name?

Ah, many many happy hours spent at the holding point on 22 end, watching and waiting.
I remember taking a spare set of batteries for the scanner when the base was so busy.

Looking at some old news clippings last week, the last contract awarded in 2008 or 09 for engine overhauls would have finished in 2018. And that was the Original OSD from memory.
