Smashing post

What a fine looking plane the argosy was - I just about remember Sagitair? Argosy operating out of Bournemouth to the channel islands - bringing in flowers apparently.

Great and historic selection Ian  Remember seeing the RAE Varsity WF379 turning up one day for an approach at Coningsby (think it was from Pershore ?)
115 Sqdns. Argosies were often across from Cottesmore at Binbrook on ILS calibration work and orbiting across Grimsby.

Fabulous selection. That RNHF is one to treasure. Also the Argosies, Britannia and RAE props. Wonder what year the 115 Sqn. Argosy was @ Finningley as I attended them all from '74 but don't remember seeing it.

It was the Royal Review in 1977 ;)

Thanks to all for the enthusiastic response, I do try to get a bit of variety in to these posts. BTW who spotted the 4 bladed prop on one of the Hurricane shots?

Great stuff Ian, lovely selection. However XN817 never made it to Fairford- I'd say that's Bournemouth '84... :D

I lived in Aylesbury [Bucks] for many years, and saw the last flight EVER of a Varsity. It was in 'Raspberry Ripple', flew over my house on it's way to it's last resting place at Cosford. Used to see that Viscount quite often as well. :) Of the three in the Naval Formation, only the Swordfish survives. The Sea fury ended up in two halves in a large field, hitting the only tree anywhere near it, and the Firefly was, of course, tragically lost at Duxford. The Sea Fury was rebuilt in the States, and, of course, is at Duxford, but not much of the original remains. I think it was cobbled together from three airframes, if I remember correctly.

You know I had forgotten all about Hurn '84  That makes total sense now, will revise the original file name in due course ;)
