Nice, I was at Owl End the day after - a Tuesday. Probable reason for me going was to get the white TR-1B 01064, deployed from Beale to give the 17RW TR-1A pilots check rides to remain qualified on the type. This flew twice once in the morning and then in the afternoon. Saw based TR-1A's 01068, 69, 70, 77, 81, 83 and 84. (Sqdn complement was 13.) 5 of these flew and one aborted. Lots of circuit bashing!
5 of the based Phantoms and 4 based F-5E's flew sorties in both the morning and afternoon.
Visitors were a US Army C-12 - common here due to a connection with Molesworth, 2 Bentwaters A-10's, 2 Belgium F-16's - the same ones as Monday and 2 WGAF F-4F's which arrived and got sheltered in the Aggressor Area.

Found Alconbury a difficult place to tear myself away from!

Used to avoid the crush when the TR-1B was in by going to Thurleigh. Used to bash the circuit there a lot and I never saw many other photters there.

Great post, thank you. I really miss the busy circuits at Alconbury, and Bentwaters, and Woodbridge, and Coltishall, and Wittering, and Cottesmore :'(
Despite the sadness, more posts like these please!
