Canberra's 40th. Ann. @ Wyton 13 May '89
On 13 May 1989 RAF Wyton celebrated the 40th. Ann. of the Canberra's maiden flight by hosting a 'meet' of the type and former aircrew. Altho' the event, with air display was on the Saturday, on the eve a media and enthusiasts day was held which I was privileged to attend. Sadly, on reflection, I took precious few pics of the Canberras, as I was not sufficiently au fait with the type to recognise all the different marks, apart from those which were obviously different such as the PR9s with their fighter cockpit and the Electronic Warfare ones of 360 Sqn. with all the warts on the nose. However here is a small selection plus other visiting aircraft types, most of which were from ex - Canberra units. Just a few years later I happened to be passing Wyton en route from holiday in Suffolk and saw the 100 Sqn. aircraft being broken up.

I was at that event too, when the 51 Sqn Nimrod took off I remember evryone rushing to try and photograph it.
In this world there's two kinds of people, my friend. Those with loaded guns, and those who dig. You dig.

Yes I attended it too. Some similar angles on my shots. Can remember that we had to shelter most of the morning in the car wondering whether to abandon the day... then the sun came out.. brilliantly. Pleased that I got to see the the 'blue' Anniversary Canberras posing as VN799.

Made the trip to Cambrodgeshire too. wonderful day if you liked Canberras and RAF stuff. I even bought a shot from the Daily Telegraph of an aerial view of the event, in B&W just for authenticity

I Still have the DVD of the BBC prog of the event
The 'Green Marrows' and the 'Sidewinder' spring to mind, as does the sad loss of Reg McKendrick
Cheers

What I should have said is that I still have the Video of the event, which was broadcast on the BBC, and then I made a DVD from said video, using 'smoke and mirrors'
Sadly, this process no longer works

I was down the runway caravan when Roly was taken up in the blue Canberra. It nearly took my head off as it was taxiing !!
