Mildenhall 1984 - 60-0315
Seeing KC-135R today (23 May 17) fly over on Bobby 01 reminded me that I recently scanned a shot of it from about March 1984 (No date on the prints)

Nice - them were the days. 00315 looks like 320BW Mather AFB Ca in that photo.

Hi, Malcolm/ slogen51. I've just Googled 320BW and you're right; the unit badge on the sash is of the 320th. Takes me back to the days of the original "Quids" when the 100th ARW Qs came over on TDY from Beale; their badge was not too dissimilar to that of SAC. Then one day a Q mark turned up with a new badge containing four Maltese crosses; the 100th had been absorbed by the 9th StratRecon Wing.

Yep, 00315 is 320BW. It arrived at Mildenhall on Sun 1st April'84 - the same day that 12 Connecticut ANG A-10's, en-route from the US to Wethersfield, diverted into Mildenhall. Tankers which A/R them included 91448 and 91499.

Oh those engines, and all that smoke, fabulous! I remember that day with the CT A10's diverting into Mildenhall, there was a very long convoy of vehicles from Wethersfield to Mildenhall that evening!

Thanks and thanks again for the info - made me go back through my logs. There were also two AWACS in Lakenheath 70352 and 80577.
(The photos were taken on Saturday 7 April 1984. We couldn't of known about the CT's at the time as for some reason we logged them at Wethersfield on Friday 13/4 - must of been a day off)
