First Snow Cam Jaguar - 1981
First Snow Cam Jaguar - 1981
41 Sqn operating from Bardufoss, Norway in March 1981. Pretty sure that this was the first time that snow cam had been applied to a Jaguar.

Although it looks sunny, it was still minus lots and not the place do be doing an ejection seat removal outside. Unfortunately the hoist did not go high enough in the HAS to get the seat out, so that was why it had to be towed outside to be removed.

Not great quality photos but hopefully of interest.

Fantastic set.
Was there anywhere the Jag couldn't go?

Great sequence, esp 3 + 4. And we think the snow's been bad!

Thanks for sharing these, an interesting selection of shots and another sadly missed type.
Re: First Snow Cam Jaguar - 1981
Great pics, the quality isn't bad at all compared to what I was producing in 1981!
Many thanks for sharing

Does anyone know the story between this one-off Snowcam jet?
When? Which airframe?
Why?

Nice set. Looked forward to winter deployments as there was the chance of bagging snow camo frames on their return.

Miss the Jag - very underrated and should have had more flying time at airshows in my opinion.

Not definitive by any means. Found this post on another website regarding the same photo, where one of the replies claims it is XZ116 and gives a link to another website, but that link no longer works. Not sure if correct or not.

Had a look around and came across this website. Apparently this is XZ116 of 41 Squadron during an exercise at Bardufoss, Norway in 1984."

Re: First Snow Cam Jaguar - 1981
It did have around 30 years on the circuit in RAF service almost unbroken, so didn't do badly, considering they weren't the most agile of jets and vastly underpowered. Add to that the French pairs routines and earlier solo.
