Great shots, so many variations. Wyton was usually fairly busy and if the sun was out, it was a great place to spend some time.

Lots of good memories there. Sure the R1 was XW661?

Cheers,

Think of the fun they could've had with the other side if it had been XW661. Remember SAC playing around with its RC-135 serials and even applying bogus numbers which kept people guessing.

Memories of Wyton during its Comet and early Nimrod days were ones of tight security - not a base to linger outside for too long especially with a camera! Vaguely remember them having Bloodhound Missiles there as well. Alconbury a/c were also temporarily based sometimes due to runway work so it could be a really busy base.

Great to see a selection of its residents.

Photting a Nimrod taxying once and I became aware of someone tooting their car horn. Turned round and it was an RAF officer who told me that I shouldn't be photographing it as it was secret. Played dumb and he went on his way and once he'd gone I continued photting. :D

this was my local base right till it closed and I moved away in 1999, 51 Sqn Nimrods didn't exist, so you can't have taken a pic of it!! according to RAF sources!!!! use to go up during exercises, the base was often mock attacked by Mirage IV,s, and of course the Alconbury Traffic passed overhead on finals......
