A Very sick harrier...ZD406

Post by steve149c » Wed Nov 04, 2009 8:53 pm

Hi All,

Well ZD406 Harrier GR9 - Royal Navy Anniversary tail has eluded me this year - the closest I thought I would get was from the opposite side of the Mersey Whilst she sat on HMS Illustrious's ski jump!!

Then I get home, and she comes over the house at dusk on a very slow approach into Valley - and guess who didn't have the camera !?! Turned out she had a major hydraulic failure, the pilot had to pump his own gear down.

But finally today, she showed her face. At Valley, hangar over near SAR, where hawks have maintenance, She appeared, rotated and disappeared. And oh, it hau'd it down with the one shower of the day during!! Looking in a very sorry state, lots of covers off, nozzle off on front starboard.

I know it's five years late but the reason that ZD406 landed at Valley after leaving the Lusty was that the starboard front undercarrier door broke one of it's hinges and was flapping under the fuselage.
