Star and Bar at Fairford : U-2 B-52 and a C-5M

Post by slogen51 » Thu Sep 14, 2017 8:53 pm

Went to Fairford for the U-2 80-1083 and stayed in a local to catch the B-52 arrival the next day on the 14 September 17

Sorry about the large number of the U-2 - went a bit beserk!

(The B-52s didn't come out that well - too late now and I seem to have mixed up the file names)

Great set, that U2 looks unflyable in that configure. What type of car is that that they're using as the chase car?

Great Mike - particularly like the U-2 shots

Is that a Jaguar 'F' Type they are using as a chase car? Seen some other shots on Flickr and it looks like it? Think they used white Tesla's at RIAT (good for acceleration in the 'Ludicrous' mode) - now Jaguars?

Nice set all round Mike - keep them coming

Good shots and nice to see 61-0020 (The Big Stick) doing well after her engine replacement.

Those U-2 shots are great, really clear.

As for the cars, while I was there they had a drag race before the U-2 returned, the regular blue one beat the Jag F type (?) twice! The Jag sounded better though.

Many thanks

You could hear the throaty roar of the chase cars as the U-2 went past - some said the blue car was a Camaro ? Nice work if you can get it!.

The F-Type is a 300bhp 4-cylinder.

From memory the normal chase car is a 500bhp V8...!

Of course, even a basic Tesla was destroy both of them in a race to 100!

That F-Type is the 5.0 V8 (quad exhausts give it away) with around 550hp. Beautiful machine

A quick question why does the buff have rippled bodywork on the side of the fuselage? i have noticed it before but never asked.

Hey thanks for taking the time to comment.

I guess the B-52 is famous for its rippled skin - always assumed it was age related and the effects of pressurisation cycles - but why don't you see the same on an airliner?

I only read recently that B-52 crew have ejection seats !

An amazing plane that will see most of us out!
