Established in 1957 under the name of "2nd Light Aircraft Reparation Unit" (R.R.A.L.E), in 1959 it was named the "2nd Army Reparation Reparation Unit" after helicopter maintenance tasks were also assigned. Establishment Center was the O.A.R.E. (Automotive Repair Service Army) of Bologna from which it was initially located. In 1958, part of it originated in the Air Maintenance and Repair Section at the current headquarters. Subsequently, in 1962, the 2nd Rep. R.A.L.E. He moved definitively to the current headquarters of the Bologna airport at Borgo Panigale.
The current denomination dates back to 1996, following the reorganization of the Army. At a time, from 3 October 1999 to 1 December 2003, Army Aviation became part of the Cavalry Army and the unit was named "2nd Cavalry Regiment Regiment - Orione."
In 1990 the war flag was granted to unity. In 1999, when Army aviation was temporarily embedded in the Cavalry Army, the war flag was replaced by the Combat Starder.
Over the years, the Regiment has been called upon to provide, with its own staff, the necessary operational support at home and in virtually all the missions that saw Army Aviation Units employed outside the national territory for the International Community. These include: UN missions (UNIFILL, UNTAG-Namibia, UNOSOM-Somalia, ONUMOZ-Mazambico), NATO missions (SFORBosnia, KFOR-Kosovo, ISAF \ RSM-Afghanistan) and Coalition missions ( ALBA-ALBANIA, ANTICA BABILONIA \ OIR-IRAQ).
