Ascot 408 @ NWI

Post by Skip » Thu Nov 12, 2015 5:52 pm

Just got in from work and fired up PPm to see what was about and saw A400m ZM402 on the approach to Norwich Airport, as I only live a few miles from the approach line I thought I'd have a peek as I'd never seen one before. Nice view from the back garden :D

Typically it decided to fly through low cloud for the first pass

Then after doing a few approaches over Coltishall it decided to do another one at Norwich and this time it kept out of the cloud

Ta for looking

Well caught Chris. :thumb:
Still haven't caught one of the RAF A400's to date- fingers crossed we get some approaches at Mildenhall at some point, as its a long drive over to Brize! :D

Love number two! Had it over the house at Colt, couldn't get there straight away so darn missed it! Clearly nothing else happened locally today..... http://www.edp24.co.uk/news/raf_airbuse ... _1_4309427

Hi Chris :P

Only saw one 'frame live do one pass, roughly on 04 to the north east, presumably before the Colt passes, but there were, apparently 2 'frames (ZM402 and ZM405)

Zoomed home and, looking at FR24, seems it/they also took in Durham Tees and Middleton St. George, amongst others, before returning to Brize :D

Seemed a pretty tortuous path as well ;)

Great shots, by the way

Cheers

Just checked the EDP link - wow "Military plane circling Norwich airport... any idea why??" er because it can? Sorry but what a ridiculous comment. Presumably the twit-terrer wasn't around when Colt was active - probably would have thought WW3 was breaking out!

Slow news day in Norfolk - EDP used to be a lot better than that.

Nice shots btw - still have to see one too.

Thanks for all the comments guys, much appreciated. That link to the EDP makes me laugh as the story says 2 were circling so I replied saying I was only aware of 1 then someone says there were definitely 2 because 1 was smaller with a different tail, which surely proves there was only 1 A400

Also just to add, in the EDP someone mentions he saw 3 of these aircraft on finals, or maybe he saw the same one on 3 occasions and not 3 different airframes? Anyway that reminded me of an occasion many years ago when I was sitting in Johns field on a very quiet day and a C130 was doing approaches into Lakenheath on 06 when this geezer walks up to me and said 'blimey we should be at Lakenheath there has been loads of Hercs landing there today'   I just looked at him and didn't have the heart to say it was the same one

I only mentioned 2 because 'egshmov' stated ZM402 and ZM405 were working ;)

Thanks for the shots again :thumb:

Noted 'RRR406' ZM405 [43C59F] during multiples circuits/approaches around 14.30 and as he climbed away east and to the north of Marham to route up through Lincolnshire for DTA, 'RRR408' ZM402 [43C5DC] was already tracking NE from BZN and was approaching Norwich for pattern work. Two in Narfick at the same time :O
