Thought I would update this year's calendar with Bastille Day flypast - Saturday 14 July

Clashes with RIAT - what a bummer

...But you could do what a number of us will do and that is to do RIAT on the Friday now that it is a 'full' day and has the Flypast and then drive down to Dover/Ashford and carry on to Les Invalides for Saturday morning, peut être?

Not always a Saturday though.

I will probably fly to Paris but I thought the RAF 100 flypast was happening at Fairford or have I got that wrong?

As far as I can ascertain, there will be a flypast over London on the Tuesday 10th July to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the formation of the RAF whilst, on Friday 13th July at Fairford there will be an flypast as part of the royal review of the RAF. If the royal review is as per the 1968 Abingdon event (and the 75th anniversary event at Marham in 1993) the flypast should include aircraft of each RAF squadron - although at the latter poor weather meant the flypast element didn't happen. Not sure what the planned flypast over London will involve - groups of Typhoons are working up to flying a "100" formation so I would hope they will be part of both flypasts. Have heard a rumour of a 100 aircraft flypast at one of the events. They'll be struggling to find enough multi-engined aircraft to fly over London (although the BBMF and Red Arrows seem to have an exemption from the rule) if that's where the 100 aircraft flypast is to take place. Hopefully things will become clearer in the coming months. I suspect that with Bastille Day being the Saturday of the Fairford show there will little of the AdlA participating at RIAT on Friday or Saturday. Maybe the PdF will pitch up for the Sunday though?

Thanks for that

The F-35 is a single engine aircraft - hope that is allowed over London

Apart from the main flypast on the 14th July along the Champs Elysee, there are practice days prior to the event. In recent years Chateaudun has been the base where they pull the show together. However about one week before the big event they do a large scale practice on the Champs Elysee (normally early afternoon and weather dependent). This is covered in advance by several Notams

What's the issue with my reply PLMC135? The question re the RAF flypast was posted and I gave an answer. I also highlighted that the Bastiile Day flypast may impact on RIAT (which was also mentioned in the original post). Problem? All queries were answered!
