Not sure why there should be debate. The bottom lie is simple - it is a military establishment which has to maintain a high level of security. If such actions are deemed necessary then visitors have two choices - comply or stay away. I'm no longer on MSF but I can only assume that there are moans as if they have a right to enter as they wish. Changing world especially where the US is concerned.

People need to get a life and either follow the instructions or don’t attend. Those who want to take ‘larger’ camera kits just need to register for ‘Jet Fan’, no hardship there, and (as far as I could see) it’s free!!

Oceana.
just one observation.

You need to pick up in person your "Jet Fan" ticket on the friday before the show

Miramar.

I see that they have introduced a "Clear Bag Policy"
In other words,No camera bags.
Everything has to be in a Clear Bag

I have never seen any clear bags for sale!!
Someone going to make some money

Primark have/had a good range,
Miramar had this policy last year so Mrs G went and got one ready , Not very masculine but will be fine if you are taking your wife/girlfriend, sister etc as long as she doesn't mind lugging your camera gear, I am just taking one 400mm and one 18-55mm with the 400 on the body to go through the scanners as I did last year at Oceana without issue

U S air show Camera restrictions 2018

Post by Downrange » Tue Oct 02, 2018 1:25 pm

Just posting to advise that I attended the MCAS Miramar air show last weekend and went equipped with a clear zippable plastic bag for my camera (via Amazon), 100-400mm and wide angle lenses. In reality many locals attended with all sorts of bags and small backpacks which seemed to get through ok. There were clear plastic bags on sale at the entrance (US$10). Any lenses from 400mm upwards had to inspected but once passed had a sticker affixed for possible later inspection during the day, but there seemed to be no limit on the size allowed.

Mind you the flying at Miramar was rather limited and the static over-crowded (on the Saturday).
