I understand most people go to Les Invalides to view the flypast.

As I could be very tight for time does anyone know if you can view from along the south bank near Notre Dame station while walking above ground towards Les Invalides which would save vital minutes from Charles De Gaulle.

I've viewed the flypast from the southern end of Pont Neuf in the past. Compared to Invalides you are considerably closer to the aircraft and therefore the picture is far less side on and more underneath. However nose on the formations look good as the sun is behind you. The helicopters are fine as they a little lower anyway.
Walking along the southern embankment the crowds tend to gather after Musee d'Orsay towards Pont Alexandre.
Note that the RER from CDG vary in the number of stops they take into Paris. As I remember every other one goes non stop to Gare du Nord making it speedier than the stopping train before.

Thanks

I need to be side on but it sounds like I will still be able to see the flypast aircraft if I am running late. The choppers at 11:30 shouldn't be a problem but the first jets at 10:30 is tight as I don't get to CDG until 08:30

The invalides and south side of Pont Neuf (or the entire river bank) give you a good view and photography changes but the aircraft are tend to be back lit.

Can't wait - hope the flight is bang on time

I understand that there are usually some choppers on the ground around the Champs Elysees?

Not the last couple of years, haven't read anything that this will come back unfortunately. If you are in doubt and on the esplanade des Invalides it will be easy to see if this will be on again as there will be a small mobile control tower present and the place is fenced off. Choppers used to land there around 13.00h.

Hi there,

Please note, that the rehearsal over Paris will take place Wednesday July the 11th at 1500 for the aircraft and 1545 for helicopters

This year is the return of helicopters display at the Invalides after the flypast. They would arrive around 1300 and, and would leave the place after 1800.
To this link https://flic.kr/s/aHskB8DUHc you will find exemples of photos taken during their departs

Nice

That is good news. Do you think the display choppers will be made up of helicopters from the flypast or hopefully different ones?

In 2012 at least, a lone helicopter was displayed at Les Invalides and was in place before any of the flypast or arrivals. Fingers crossed.
CU there. Freeman

In 2014 we had an NH-90, Tigre, Puma, Cougar, and Gendarme EC-145. They were all from the flypast and landed on the grass along Les Invalides.

That's cool. After the flypast they refuel at the small Gendarmerie heli port nr. Paris. From there they will fly low across the Seine river to the Invalides. Positioning yourselve along the Seine north bank can give you great shots. With departure at the end of the day you can have shots with the massive Invalides dome in the background. Just for ideas.
