Re: Meeting de l'Air 2017
Hi,
I have chance to go to the Bordeaux show due to working close by on that weekend.
Does anybody know if there is good public transport laid on for the show from Bordeaux city centre, or is it a case of getting on the number 1 bus to the airport?
Any help greatly appreciated.
Andy

Looks like Bordeaux Show entry is going to be by buses from many parking places around the city at stations, bus stops etc. Normally these transfers are free. Detail is in the web page below

Phalsbourg is still listed on the Airshows.org site, but if you click the link it takes you to a page for the 2014 show! Not sure...

It'd be nice to know, we were planning to do St Diz and Phalsbourg one day and then Geilenkirchen the next, to be honest if Phalsbourg's not happening that makes things a lot easier!
Re: Meeting de l'Air 2017

Was in 2 minds about Geilenkirchen but the participants list is starting to look quite interesting! Need to discuss it but it'll probably happen!

I dont do facebook but is it worth asking the question on Phalsbourg or 1RHC page if they are having an open day/event ??sschofield wrote:Was in 2 minds about Geilenkirchen but the participants list is starting to look quite interesting! Need to discuss it but it'll probably happen!

Re: Meeting de l'Air 2017
Update on this, "Phalsbourg Airshow" now has a Facebook page. One day show, Sunday 2nd July only, which means we're now doing St Diz on the Saturday, and Phalsbourg and Geilenkirchen on the Sunday. Flights booked!

But still very limited info on their Facebook page.

Yep, indeed. We figured now that we know the date the show is on, and we're out there anyway, we'll fit it in - We're currently planning to be In GK in the morning on the Sunday and then head South, ideally getting to Phalsbourg mid-afternoon. Having been to a few Army shows over the years in France (notably the last Compeigne show where I drove in about 1630 after driving up from Orleans!), arriving late doesn't seem to be an issue.
Re: Meeting de l'Air 2017
Be warned that the last GK show I attended was 'kin chaos getting in and out. They parked you in a field somewhere near Munich and then bussed you in. We were lucky and got on a bus almost straight away, but on the drive in we passed many other fields, all with huge queues of people waiting to get on busses. They had either severely underestimated the number of busses they were going to need, or a lot more people turned up than were expected. Getting out was similar chaos.sschofield wrote:Yep, indeed. Re: Meeting de l'Air 2017
Worth knowing thanks Malcolm!
The website advises the vehicle access is only available from Geilenkirchen-Stahe, which seems to be North of the airfield. Since everything seems to happen on the Southside, I'm wondering if they're going to use the old dispersals on the Northside for parking and the event on the Southside? That would seem to be the most sensible option...

Update here from the French Army, which tells me that the airfield is open on July 2nd, entry is free, and not much else!
