Belgian Air Force Days 2016 - Florennes
Belgian Air Force Days 2016 will happen at Florennes on 25th and 26th June
Already confirmed via their Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/belgianairforcedays

Hellenic Air Force F-16 Demo Team "Zeus"
Turkish Air Force F-4E Phantom (static)
Swiss Air Force FA-18 display
Looks a good start, shame it's so close to RIAT, wished it would have been in the September slot like 2014
2016 is also the 70th anniversary of the Belgian Air Force

hi, is there a airport local to the base ? thanks ROB
Re: Belgian Air Force Days 2016 - Florennes
You could go to Charleroi or Chievres by plane, and hire a car. It's about +/- 1hrs drive (depending on the traffic)Hunter49 wrote:hi, is there a airport local to the base ? thanks ROB

Looks like a Ryanair fly drive then for that one. The Turkish AF F4 Phantom is very tempting.

Trying to book tickets for the above show - found the link - has anyone else booked tickets yet because the link shows up in Belgium and it is not making any sense. Thank you in anticipation of assistance. Steve

Yep; I'm going! I've booked for the arrivals Friday and the Saturday, going for the Fans of the Air Force deal. Never been before so a bit of a gamble re value of buying a more expensive ticket.
Looks like a brilliant line-up in prospect but funnily enough what really clinched it for me was the chance of seeing the Super Connie flying. I know it's not military but I reckon it's just one of the most graceful aircraft ever to have flown.
For the record I'm going Dover-Calais (£98) and staying in Charleroi (good deal via AirBnB: £85 for 3 nights!) so it's not going to break the bank... No company for the trip, sadly, so I'll just have to drink with the locals in the evenings!

Old enough to have been taught to fly by Basil Pring in a Rallye 150 at Dunkeswell - and lived to tell the tale!

Re: Belgian Air Force Days 2016 - Florennes
Who has been to an airshow at Florennes before ?
See from the website that car parking appears to be southside of the base, so fair to assume public will be located south of the runway ?
Dutch shows often use the parallel taxiway / second runway as the main aircraft static park, any idea if Florennes will be the same ? What about the location of flying participants ?
And finally how close are public usually allowed to the runway or would a location 'off base' on the approach be a better photo oppertunity ?
Thanks in advance for any answers.

Re: Belgian Air Force Days 2016 - Florennes
Most of the static is on the secondary runway and TLP platform, but people can walk all around these planes, so forget that you can taka any clean shots of those.
For the show you are south of the runway, audience is on the secondary runway with a lot of rough terrain between the 2 runways including bushes, distance is probably around 600mm or more.
It is possible to photograph some of the display aircraft on a taxiway after 13.00hrs.

USN F/A-18s have pulled out.
Re: Belgian Air Force Days 2016 - Florennes
On Scramble there is discussion on the carrying of photobags into the base on saturday and sunday. Seems security is tight both days. Just a reminder to those attending.

Yes. No rucksacks Sat / Sun and a separate security check for anyone with small bags
Re: Belgian Air Force Days 2016 - Florennes
Seems now there will be a seperate security lane for those carrying a photobag on saturday and sunday. Expect delay to get on base both days, so the organisers say.
What I have seen on the map on their website static will be parked on the parallel runway from the former TLP ramp in the direction of threshold 08R. Former TLP-ramp will be used for VIP's. Some helicopters will be parked on the taxiway west of former TLP-ramp and south of rwy 08R/26L.
Cheers,
Ranger

Map of the airshow, all static on parallel runway with people all around them.
Everything is now west of the TLP flightline, so no taxishots of display aircraft on eastern taxiway
