Suggestion - "I just saw on FR24..." thread
Seems to work quite well on UKAR, might be handy on here? Obviously there's a lot of stuff that pops up on FR24 that doesn't really warrant a thread of its own, so having it all in one place keeps it tidy, and is easier to refer back to!

Seems like a feasible idea to me.

Re: Suggestion - "I just saw on FR24..." thread
The thing is with this topic is that FR24 don't like military popping up on the site.so each time someone mentions a Typhoon,Eagle etc with its call sign, they will end up blocking it next time round.
So really I would just keep quiet about what pops up on it from time to time.

Try looking up NASA806 (U2), it has been doing some pretty survey patterns backwards and forwards across California in various areas for a few days
Re: Suggestion - "I just saw on FR24..." thread
Well considering how many mil aircraft continue to be posted many times in FR24's own chat room, I'd say they are indifferent unless specifically asked to block them. In fact, I even helped correct some database info with one of the staff regarding the NC-135 that came over a few weeks ago!powerslave wrote:The thing is with this topic is that FR24 don't like military popping up on the site.so each time someone mentions a Typhoon,Eagle etc with its call sign, they will end up blocking it next time round.

Re: Suggestion - "I just saw on FR24..." thread
I remember when they first started MLAT on FR 24,it was covered with Reach flights,Tornados,Hawks,Typhoons etc.
One by one they all started disappearing, even the Voyagers stopped showing.
At least on Planefinder they are still on.

But look over Europe and Australia, full of mil, it seems to me like they were requested specifically to block them.powerslave wrote:I remember when they first started MLAT on FR 24,it was covered with Reach flights,Tornados,Hawks,Typhoons etc.

Bump - working well on other forums now I see...
Re: Suggestion - "I just saw on FR24..." thread
I have never seen FR24 "disappear" a mill. flight just because somebody mentioned it in FC.
But I understand why some members don't like FR24 being mentioned on FC, believing that it only invites/informs FR24 that mill. are showing.
Probably FR24, PP and Planefinder (and probably others) work to different rules/standards, as do forums.
Some clarification of what is expected on here would be useful.

Re: Suggestion - "I just saw on FR24..." thread
Example:
UK Ministry of Defence send an official letter (or, more likely, an email) to FlightRadar24 AB and state "We do not wish for our frontline combat aircraft to appear of your flight tracking website, this includes the following types:
EUFI - Euofighter Typhoon
TOR - PANAVIA Tornado
GLEX - Bombardier Sentinel
E3CF - Boeing Sentry
... etc
Please ensure that these flights are not available for the public to view on your website, or action will be taken"
FlightRadar24 AB then begins the arduous task of finding the hex code for every single one of these aircraft, and setting up something in their database that means they aren't displayed (note, displayed and tracked are different!)
However, in the meanwhile, someone else at the MOD decide that, in fact, he doesn't like the hex codes used by the Typhoon fleet so orders them to be changed.
This this causes a problem, because Typhoons are now appearing on FR24 again! Uh oh, the MOD won't like that, and the MOD, FR24 and many other agencies look at this forum. If they didn't see posts on this forum, it's entirely plausible that they wouldn't notice the Typhoons reappearing. End result if we post? No Typhoons. End result if we don't post? Typhoons.

I understand and accept your point.
Surely though, the same would apply to PP and Planefinder for example?

Re: Suggestion - "I just saw on FR24..." thread
PP is less affected as it is a closed network where the only access is by registration, and it is generally not known of by the general public. However, there are still quite a few aircraft that are blocked from PP.

I block the a/c on PP and do so on the grounds of security , as and when needed.
Re: Suggestion - "I just saw on FR24..." thread
I would presume then that it is better not to post on FC anything mill. seen on FR24, as it is public and free?

Hyperthetical quesiton -
Where do you draw the line between posting something in the 'i just saw on FR24' thread vs a dedicated thread in the Heads Up section?
Aware that the single thread approach works on some other forums however i don't believe they also have the same level of real time movement monitoring posted as happens on FC.

Re: Suggestion - "I just saw on FR24..." thread
"I can see four hawks on FR24"
"DRIP77 is in FR24"...thread for it in HU&OTT...FR24 post is moved
That's how I see it anyway

Re: Suggestion - "I just saw on FR24..." thread
Of course you would also have to have another thread for PlaneFinder now they have limited MLAT.

I suggest naming it "So, what's wrong in Planefinder's database today?"big john wrote:Of course you would also have to have another thread for PlaneFinder now they have limited MLAT.

The only issue i see there is having to monitor both the FR24 thread and Heads up/OTT as another level of duplication.EGCC wrote:"I can see four hawks on FR24"

Where would you see the FR24 thread being? My first thought would be a sticky in heads up/OTT as thats the place for live tracking
