Tomorrow sees the start of the major Shackleton repainting project at the museum and first up is the installation of the scaffolding around the whole aircraft. This will obviously limit the photographic opportunities for this aircraft for the duration of the project; the aircraft will also not have any internal access either.

Progress on the project will be recorded in this gallery on the museum website http://www.newarkairmuseum.org/WR977_Repaint

The museum is participating in the BBC Big Day Out campaign, which provides free admission to a host of tourist attractions in the county. Further information in here N.B. you’ll need the print-out if you want to gain the free admission offer with us.

On Sunday we will have several aircraft / cockpits open – small donation is requested to access each one; all proceeds going towards the new Café & Toilet facility. There is also some traffic advice to be aware of for Sunday – details in here!

A quick Heads-Up about a one day closure of museum on Wednesday 22nd June, from the website:

“22.06.16 - Unforeseen One Day Closure

As we move ever closer to starting work on the installation of the new waste treatment system, it seems likely that the museum will need to close to the public for one day; and this has now been confirmed as taking place on Wednesday 22nd June 2016.

This unanticipated closure is required to allow for an upgrade to be completed our site electrical supply; and a key distribution board for the museum site electrics. Furthermore it has now been arranged to tie in with a significant disruption to our mains water supply, which will be occurring on the same date

We apologise in advance to any visitors who might have been planning to visit on that day. However as we do not have any special group visits booked in it made sense to close when we do not have appropriate facilities available. Undertaking this work quite early in the summer will also help to minimise disruption later during the busier school holiday period.”
