Range Score Terminology.
Range Score Terminology.
Heard some range scores from Holbeach today.
165 at 5
152 at 730
Can anyone explain the meaning?

Re: Range Score Terminology.
Lets get this one rolling 21zebra,
I used to have it worked out but have let it slip.
Believe 5 is 5 o'clock, 730 is half seven - where the practice bomb has landed on a 12 hour clock.
Forget if 165/152 are feet or yards off target.

Re: Range Score Terminology.
Hands on the clock & feet from target
13:30 @ 125 ft. Or DH Direct Hit.
In Hot = live guns, bombs run.
In Cold = practice dummy run, laser run.
Switches Safe = safety catch on trigger.
Most ranges also have a vhf unicon freq 122.75

Thanks for the detailed info, the clock face certainly makes sense.

Target 2 is the main one, you'll get scores with.

Re: Range Score Terminology.
One from the past, sadly, was "winchester".
Used by A10 pilots to say the gun was "cooling down" after firing. I didnt know what it meant until I asked an A10 pilot.

Winchester is still used but it mean's all ordnance has been expended, they sometimes give the call too range tower, they will call their squadron ops with the word when RTBing. Must admit doesn't happen that often now

Re: Range Score Terminology.
Didnt know it was still in use Gary. Last time i heard winchester was when the 81TFW flew out of Woodbridge and Bentwaters. I was unaware it is used by other types today. Thanks for the info. Was it ever used back in the days of the A10 by other types? I only ever heard the A10s use it on Donna/Holbeach/Wainfleet. Had some cracking days down the ranges.

Definition of WINCHESTER:
All stores or ordnance expended. It can relate to a specific store or ordnance, i.e. WINCHESTER GUN or WINCHESTER BOMBS.
