This is the French Navy amphibious helicopter carrier Tonnerre and her equipment. The ship is on a 5 month deployment into the Atlantic, the Med, the Gulf and Far East. Portsmouth was her 1st port of call after picking up the Legionnaires and their equipment from Brest. Toulon is her home port. Next stop is Beirut. There's quite a lot of photos, wanted to show as much as possible. The landing craft was unique, it is a catarmaran which can raise the vehicle deck upwards to lose contact with the sea, I've never seen one of this type before. The Legionnaires shooting are on the live fire range with a senior rank who has one hell of a tattoo!! There are also a variety of vehicles coming ashore and going back on board which were used during the amphibious exercise. This post is very picture heavy so I hope you don't get too bored and lose interest!

Very intresting. Something different to look at. Looks good on board, shows what goes on on that type of ship. Thanks for taking the trouble to post.
