Nightjar Thetford forest

Post by mikee115 » Sat Jun 09, 2018 9:20 am

Hi all,

Its that time of year again. On the hunt for the very well camouflaged Nighjars that return to Thetford forest from their winter grounds in Africa. I was lucky enough to find one sitting tight on its nest. It flew off once i moved away and returned to the nest once i was a good distance away.

Lovely Mike. I had a look around a forest down on the South coast on Wednesday where I’d heard they were around, but unfortunately didn’t find any.

Well caught! You did well to spot them, let alone get some cracking photos. Thanks for sharing.

Lovely set of a difficult bird to see in daylight.

Thanks everybody. It helps working in the forest making my chances of finding them higher. Always great to see though.

Superb photos!

The effectiveness of some natural cammo is astounding.

It's a good thing the Typhoons at Coningsby aren't as well cammo'd or the number spotters would never find them!
