105mm live fire on STANTA

Post by mikee115 » Thu Jun 07, 2018 9:23 pm

Hi all,

Working in the forest and hearing artillery I headed towards the sound. Arriving at the site I found a set up of 3 105mm firing into the STANTA range from the Grimes Graves site.

Good catch, particularly #5, the shell. Out of focus of course ;)

Is the location close to the NT flint mine? Thanks for posting, makes a pleasant change

It can't be out of focus being in the same plane as the weapon firing it. Simply blurred due to the speed :)

Cracking shot though!

Thanks everyone. I was pleased and surprised at catching the shell in the photo.
The site is next to the English Heritage site at Grimes Graves and where I have photographed the HH-60 when they were based at RAF Lakenheath.

I often hear the thump thump of the guns from home so it is great to see a picture of the activities. I assumed they were firing blanks, I didn't realize there was a projectile involved.

They use live rounds and fire into the range from this position at Grimes Graves.

Rather hear them going overhead than the alternative!
Great catch in shot 5. :D
