Brick Lane Street Art, London ~ 10Mar18

Post by Pen Pusher » Sun Mar 11, 2018 3:16 pm

I had a wander around Historic Spitalfields, Jack the Ripper territory amongst other things, hunting down locations for a weekday photo shoot as there are to many shoppers around at the weekends. As it’s only a couple of minutes walk away, I had ventured into Brick Lane for no other reason than I know of Brick Lane but never been to Brick Lane. Apart from being the Curry capital of the UK, Brick Lane and the surrounding streets are also world famous for its street art by local and international artists and the artwork, illustrations, murals and painted shutters change on a regular basis. There are also Street Art tours available and I came across two while I was there.

Great set once again, showing the artwork really well. I knew of it's existence as it was featured on one of the walk arounds when Bargain Hunt came from Spitalfields market.

Short answer, no.

I did a bit in the early days when I wandered around with a large Sony D SLT type camera but since I down sized to my a6300 I hardly get second look. I believe their assumption is that if you have a DSLR type camera then you are a professional and you need a permit to operate on their property, but my 24MP Sony a6300 & 42MP Sony Cyber-shot RX1R Mark II look like tourist point and shoot cameras and I have a camera bag that doesn't look like a camera bag so very rarely get a second glance from Security guards. There is a caveat in the city though, if you point your camera at the entrance/reception area of an office block you are liable to get a tap on the shoulder because of security implications, they say, but point your camera at the first floor and upwards and all is well in the world. :D

That does raise a point however, in these days of mobile phones with cameras... Surely your average nutcase that is planning something doesn't actually need to go buy a descent spec camera anyway.?

Just a thought!

Try explaining that to a security guard though.
