At 8.50pm On Wednesday the 15th, April, 2015 the female Osprey laid her first egg at Lowes water, lets home for a successful outcome with many more to come.

http://www.dyfiospreyproject.com/scienc ... stics-2011 Incubation period for osprey is anything from 37/38 days and in 2011 42 days.

http://www.dyfiospreyproject.com/video Some interesting videos to watch from Wales before The Lowes Water Osprey hatches.

The osprey eggs could hatch any minute.

Excitement is building as we approach May 19 our predicted first hatching date and 35 days since the first egg was laid. Here are the tell-tale signs that hatching is imminent. Here are a few pointers on what will happen.

* The female will really start paying more attention to the eggs as the chick inside begins to move.

* Remember, the chicks are alive inside the egg, so she will hear them making noises as they try to break free.

* The eggs can start to move on their own, as the chicks try to make their way out.

Its really important to note that the chicks break out of the egg on their own and not with any help from the mother.
It is part of the natural process that a chick must be strong enough to hatch in order to survive in the wild. Once the
first egg hatches, it is interesting to watch as the female faces a juggling act between caring for her chick and tending
to the unhatched eggs.

Our chicks (or young ospreys as we should be calling them) are now approaching seven weeks of age and before very long will be ready to test their wings for the first time.

You'll have no doubt seen on the webcam that they are now frequently hopping around and exercising their wings, at times getting perilously close to the edge of the nest.

As Fledgling time gets closer, they will begin to lift off above the nest in a manoeuvre that is called "helicoptering" before eventually plucking up the courage to
take off on their first maiden flight.

This is always a nerve wracking period for the team as we watch and wait for the next landmark event in the young ospreys development.

To encourage the young ospreys to fledge the adults will gradually bring less and less fish back to the nest - effectively starving them off the nest.

Once capable of flying, the young ospreys learn how to hunt(fish) for themselves, though generally stay near their parents for another 30 to 50 days. So there will be plenty of action to view from the webcam after they have fledged.

These notes have been taken from the Scottish Wildlife Trust Web sight and are for guidance. Hope you continue to view the nest like I have done for the past weeks.

Great News.

All three chicks have made that all important first flight and have fledged, Don't worry if you only see one ot two chicks

on the nest it just means that they have made a safe landing on nearby trees.

En-route to Lakes Lightnings to see Neil And Heather Airey's collection of Cold War Jets. I came across a notice about Ospreys at Foulshaw its just a bit nearer than Lowes Water.
