Red Biplane
Hi - new to the forum and live at Sturton near Scampton. Saw a large red biplane flying South over Scampton around 3.00pm today possibly cream colour on wings/fuselage. Was out in the garden and bins were annoyingly the other side of a locked conservatory door so didn't get a good look. Sounded like a good old ww1 vintage engine though. Can anyone help on I'd? Sorry if in the wrong forum.

Re: Red Biplane
This is almost certainly civil. If you ask on http://www.civilianaviation.co.uk someone may well be able to identify it for you.
Good luck

Re: Red Biplane
Although certainly civil registered, my first thought was a Dragon Rapide.
This Rapide photo was posted on key publishing visiting North Weald this year.

Re: Red Biplane
Hi thanks for the suggestions. Definitely not a Dragon de hav Rapide, went on one at Duxford Legends. Plane I saw/heard was a single engine radial more ww1 vintage I would have said? I'll try and do some more digging (and keep my bins handy - something interesting always flys over at the wrong moment!) Not up on my Military transports but sure a c400 flew low over Sturton on 17/10 at around 9.00am west of Scampton flying north south? Didn't see it mentioned on here though.
Thanks again for your help.

Re: Red Biplane
Most likely to have been PZL-Mielec An-2 SP-KTS which has been temporarily based in east Yorkshire and flew south to take part in the Vintage Air Rally to South Africa ; http://www.vintageairrally.com/ .
I did PM Redhunter500 with the offer of photos but no reply as yet . I can't find any details of a previous military identity for the aircraft so a civy I think ?

Re: Red Biplane
I saw the same A/c (probably) near Waddington, looked like an An-2.

Is this now red then? All the photos on the web show it in a pseudo camo schemeDavid Thompson wrote:Most likely to have been PZL-Mielec An-2 SP-KTS which has been temporarily based in east Yorkshire and flew south to take part in the Vintage Air Rally to South Africa ; http://www.vintageairrally.com/ .

It's been re-sprayed since it arrived in the UK and now has a red fuselage and upper wing , white upper fuselage and sky blue undersides .
Send me your email address and I will send you some photos by return .

Thanks, just click on the email symbol under my location, that should work. Any idea where it was done?
