BBMF 60th Anniversary Patch

Post by Squadron Prints » Mon May 29, 2017 12:33 pm

2017 Season . . . . . A Passion for Aviation for 100 years
‘BBMF 60’ 1957 – 2017 and ‘SQUADRON PRINTS 40’ 1977 – 2017

In 1957 the Royal Air Force had 3 remaining airworthy Spitfires serving with the Temperature and Humidity Monitoring Flight based at RAF Woodvale. Their operational capacity was effectively over and they were allocated to a brand new memorial unit. They duly arrived at Biggin Hill on the 11th July forming the Historic Aircraft Flight (HAF) which is now officially known as the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight (BBMF). The Boss at that time, Wing Commander Peter Thompson DFC, the then Station Commander at Biggin Hill in Kent was the man responsible for the BBMF.
Some 60 years later 2017 is a very proud year for The BBMF.

In July 1977, some 20 years after that great day, Messrs Alan Carlaw and Dugald Cameron were attending H.M. The Queen’s Silver Jubilee review of The Royal Air Force at RAF Finningley. Over coffee and a chat the idea of changing a drawing of a 43(F) Squadron’s F-4 Phantom FG1 XV571 ‘A’ in to a print was hatched and in September of that year the very first Squadron Print went on public sale at the RAF Leuchars Airshow.
Some 40 years later 2017 is a very proud year for Squadron Prints.

In total 100 years of Aviation Passion for icons of the sky. Squadron Prints Ltd is proud and honoured to supply the 60th Anniversary badges to the BBMF.
Happy 60th Birthday ☺
