Re: Red Arrows in Turmoil ?

It's all part of the denial tho' Fighterfoto. The bottom line is that until the RAF officially recognizes that it has a problem which needs addressing it is never going to find a solution. Surely in a proactive organisation open discussion of that problem should be encouraged instead of hushing it u...

Re: Red Arrows in Turmoil ?

Having watched last night's 'Untouchables' item on Sky News I don't know which shocked me more, certain pilot's predatory behaviour or the revelations that they were necking Prosecco in their hotel rooms @ 0300 hrs before a Display. What happened to the 12 hrs between bottle and throttle rule? There...

Re: Red Arrows in Turmoil ?

The reason the subject has resurfaced is because the report of the RAF's Inquiry has just been published (apparently in heavily redacted form). There is a report on Sky News @ 2100 hrs which looks interesting. I have to say that I can see the merit in the view being put forward in certain quarters t...

1983 Retrospective

As it's Christmas thought I'd fire up the Tardis for you all and timeslip back 40 yrs to the days of Phantoms, Tomcats, Vulcans, Buccaneers - and more Phantoms. Some of these pics will be familiar to owners of my books on the Mildenhall, Finningley and Ch. Fenton shows. Hopefully Santa might have le...

Re: Mallet Blow exercises ??

Does anyone remember the mid air collision of 2 Harriers from 3 Sqn. which occurred on a Mallet Blow in the early '80/late '70s?

Re: RAF Hawk display pilots

Hi F-4. Will check through my extensive collection of old airshow programmes to see if I can find the names for the missing years. This sounds like a worthy cause which deserves support so if I can help by providing pics of the display Hawks (I think I have most of them) or the pilots (of whom I hav...

Re: Mallet Blow exercises ??

Sounds like a series of near misses then Gareth. Thought there was a one way system instituted for LFAs which was put in place after the Eden Valley mid air between a Jaguar and Tornado in which John Watts was killed back in the late '80s?

Re: Mallet Blow exercises ??

In which case I'm stumped Gareth. As far as I recall the Gulf War work ups took place in late August/early September '90. I know for a fact as I witnessed one of them @ Leeming on a Saturday! It was unheard of for the RAF to fly on w/ends back then so we knew it was deadly serious. Thereafter there ...

Re: Mallet Blow exercises ??

Was it only 30 aircraft only allowed into an LFA at any one time ? I remember just after New Year’s Day when I was kid & seeing 25 aircraft of all RAF types all over the place in my local area in the southern part of LFA7 during 2 minutes, they came from every direction ! You’re lucky to see that m...

Re: Tactical Fighter Meet 86 - Waddington

Great post Mick. My visit was on a flying day - caught the bus up to Bracebridge Heath then walked down the A15 (hairy with the speeding vehicles!). But in those days there wasn't a hedge or fence to contend with so photography was easy. Oh to have had digital equipment in those days..................
