Re: President Zelensky to visit UK today
So far though I see no arguments against the Hawk T.1. This could perform limited offensive (rocket pods) and defensive (missile) capabilities. We have 30+ airworthy ones and we only use them for the red arrows now. This would send a powerful political message to US to send F-16s too We don’t need a...

Hawk T.1s? Maybe even Tornado GR4s if we’re sending stormshadow (how else deploy it?)

Re: The Ukraine Situation
With Zelensky’s visit today prompting the government to look what fighter jets could be sent to Ukraine. What are people’s thoughts on Hawk T.1s being sent? And if stormshadow is being touted as well, surely this would require a different platform…a few Tornado GR4s? Essentially, how viable would th...

Ascot 474 Atlas A400M
Hi there all, by any chance did anyone manage to capture a photo of the A400M callsigned Ascot 474 on Thursday of this past week (29/08/19)?
If you did, I’d be most awfully grateful if you’d be able to relay it onto me and I’d buy you an honoury pint in your name for your time and trouble. Cheers!

Re: July 1st F-35 visit
I'm still trying to figure-out why this is in the Leuchars section ! :S Desperation? Perhaps it might relate to my original question at the top of the thread, as to whether the F-35s would stop for fuel considering it is a military airfield in close proximity to Rosyth? Needless to say, i...

Re: July 1st F-35 visit
Assuming the F-35s turn up on time, I do imagine it will still go ahead, either with 4 or with 2. NOTAM is still active It appears they are just flying over tonight from the USA

Re: July 1st F-35 visit
Thanks for the replies guys , I've seen varying reports of it being between 13:20 BST. 12:20GMT But here is the NOTAM here, I've also seen else where that they are expected to be F-35s. It makes sense considering they will be in the country, and they will be operating off HMS Prince of Wales...

July 1st F-35 visit
There has been a NOTAM announced for 4x Military aircraft (said to be F-35s) to overfly Rosyth between 13:40-14:40 BST on Friday 1st July. Does anyone know if this could mean they would swing by Leuchars for fuel? Or would they go to Edinburgh? Thanks

Re: Tyhoon overshoot Leuchars
An excellent log of a phenomenally busy day. Here's hoping that this sort of thing might be a bit more regular. Also noted flying around the area were a pair of Tucannos (one that stopped at Dundee) and high altitude vapour trials ?possibly? Belonging to AWACS aircraft

Re: RAF to field retained Tranche 1 Typhoons as stand-alone
St Mawgan would be an ideal place to base them. Plenty of civvie jet liners to intercept, plus close to the sea for aggressor flights and just up the cost to Valley and the LFA. Stick some P8s down there also. No runway though. :P When did they dig up the runways? Perfect place for QRA south, with ...

Re: RAF to field retained Tranche 1 Typhoons as stand-alone
But wasn't Lossiemouth slated to be the first F-35 base before they changed their mind and went for Marham? It's also not (as far as I'm aware) yet confirmed where the P-8s will be based. Yes, that's right, the F-35 was meant to go to Lossie but apparently since the F-35 is that much noisier, Lossi...

Re: RAF to field retained Tranche 1 Typhoons as stand-alone
As much as I would love a 3rd UK Typhoon base to be brought into action I doubt it would happen. But if it did, it would look like Leuchars and Leeming would be the front runners. Each have their merits and detractions, however, Leeming I think would be the base that would receive any new sqns. Ano...

Re: RAF to field retained Tranche 1 Typhoons as stand-alone
Hi put them at nothholt , that way the money stays south,at the end of the day its all politics and it was a Scottish defense sectary to shut everything down in north of the border except one base Dave-c I think that the only thing that I can agree with you on is that there is a lot to do with poli...
