Re: Does the RAF F35 have a gun?

But can any Air Force afford to put such an expensive aircraft in harm's way by using it for close air support? The "boots on the ground" want something to strafe the living daylights out of the bad guys with a cannon, not hi tech missiles..RAF Harrier GR5/7/9s didn't have a usable gun at all, whic...

Re: Does the RAF F35 have a gun?

I thought the use of a gun is mainly for close air support missions. I would have thought stealth is not a priority then . Exactly! Well within eyesight & vulnerable to 'a lucky shot' why the Donald Duck would you expose your 5th Gen' a/c to such risk whilst bespoke/cheaper options exist? Until suc...

Re: Does the RAF F35 have a gun?

Dazza , any info otherwise. I always thought hanging stuff on the outside of a stealth platform would negate any advantage. Correct me if I am wrong with any info you may have. Such pods can also have low observable qualities and they can be matched to the airframe. Think of the low observable pods...

Re: Does the RAF F35 have a gun?

6ft21P6EUNc It depends on customer demands. Alternatively the F-35s missionized gun pod could be used to expand the F-35s electronic capabilities. "The gun pod is already there, and it's stealthy, so we see a potential for different types of equipment", says O'Bryan. That could include EW equipment...

Re: Britain considering collaboration with Sweden on new fighter jet

If I remember correctly the Swedish Airforce during the Cold War was the largest in Europe (numbers of aircraft) and as they were nearly all home produced the Swedish aircraft industry must be acknowledged to have a good track record. However, my guess would be that during that time none fired a sh...

Re: RAF 100 Flypast

Is anyone able to give me any feedback regarding the expected flight path of the RAF 100 flyover on Tuesday, in the vicinity of Stratford Olympic Park ? Any feedback regarding whether the track is over the Southern end of the park, or perhaps the Northern end where the A12 meets the A102M? If at th...

Re: Hunting the Fast Movers! - your sightings and data

we must remember that the F117 was"secret"until the gulf war. The F-117 was made public knowledge during November 1988. November 8, 1988 Pentagon releases indistinct first photo of the FSD-1 to the public confirming the F-117A's existence. https://www.f-117a.com/Timeline1.html 1990 April 3 The Air ...

Re: Syrian/Iraq air war and conflict

Interesting Russian "version" of last night's events on the Russian MOD website? :grr: It must be embarrassing for whoever the Russian Ministry of Defence sends out to do those briefings. They claim that the Syrians shot down 71 cruise missiles. They did the same with the 2017 cruise missile attack...

Quite likely they were hit by S400 missiles under control of Russians. N No it doesn't. Russia has no beef with Israel as long as they stay away from striking near to their airbases. They are not going to get involved with the back on-going Israeli/Hezbollah/Syrian/Iranian conflicts. That is why th...
