OTT Melksham transport a/c, whose.

Overhead Melksham about 2.30 this afternoon heading east, large white transport a/c sounding like an Atlas, only caught a glimpse of it through the clouds.

Good bye Colerne Airfield.

The powers that be had decided that Colerne was no longer needed, so the last two BUAS personnel today said good-bye to Colerne Airfield, having spent the last few months packing up, returning equipment and generally closing down, turned off the lights and locked the doors.

Seen in Membury Services (M4) westbound car park is a memorial dedicated 'To the Personnel of the R.A.F and U.S.A.A.F 7th, 8th and 9th Commands. Who Served at Station 466 MEMBURY During 1941 to 1947. REMEMBER THEM

I trained at RAF Catterick in the early 70's, lots of Pembroke, Canberra, Vulcan and Shackleton airframes used as fire trainers, Meteors dotted around the rough driver training routes, Hasting by the wet area and plenty of cockpits in the Fire School hangar and a Navy Buccaneer. Welford used to have its own rail link built 1952, you can still trace the track and sidings, and it was closed in 1973 as the USAF was moving more munitions by road. The rail link was always a bone of contention with BR.

There is a photo of Typhoon EK139 HH-N "Dirty Dora" being serviced/re-armed in a blast walled dispersal at RAF Colerne, this dispersal is still there though hidden by bushes..

I did my basic RAF fireman course at Catterick in 1973 and we trained upon many airframes, I remember the rows of Canberra and Pembroke airframes awaiting their fiery fate, scattered around for deployment training were Meteors, and a caged Canberra in the monitoring area, upon the burning area were ...

The first RAF Commander of RAF Fairford was Group Captain Allen Wheeler, who in his later years flew an Auster hangared at RAF Benson, on one such flight I was his passenger to Old Warden, he also used to own the Mk Vb Spitfire AB910 now BBMF.

My Wife and I really enjoyed our Safari to Tanzania we ticked off the Big Five and a lot more besides, had a balloon trip across the Serengeti as well, landing to be greeted to a full English breakfast served under an acacia tree. Person on another site said it was a lady driver who lost control whilst texting. Harrier will now sport a Renault kill marking, luckily enough the lady wasn't too hurt.
