Re: Argentina to buy 24 Danish F-16
Given that they have only purchased the F-16s and no weapons to equip them, they don't really pose a threat. Argentina has a very long road ahead of it if it wanted to re-build an armed forces even remotely capable of trying to re-take the Falklands. Any presidential statements about it are domestic...

Re: Anonymous KC-46
Madness from the boss of AMC, what in the world is the matter with showing the serial number, even in a data block? Maybe when the next commander takes over sanity will prevail? Not just AMC. I have seen an un-edited picture of a flying USAF F-35 with no serial or code on the fin, it just has the l...

Re: USAF Certifying F-117s To Receive Fuel From KC-46s
Full story... The U.S. Air Force (USAF) plans to complete certification of the Lockheed F-117 Nighthawk on its newest tanker by the end of this month, in spite of the fleet having been retired from “official” service. The Air Force says it plans to complete certification of the first stealth aircraf...

These new Chinooks are MH-47Gs, they just haven't been called that in documents and press releases.Kier wrote: ↑Fri Mar 15, 2024 12:54 pmNot really as an MH-47G has a range of 860 miles, and this H-47ER will get a range of 1200miles.....That's REALLY impressive !!Ravendriver2008 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 20, 2021 8:55 pmH-47ER is similar akin to the Nightstalkers MH-47G.

Re: Italian & German Tornado OSD
The current plan is for all Luftwaffe Tornados to be withdrawn by 2030, so expect the number to start reducing once the F-35 begins arriving in-country around 2028. The Eurofighter EK introduction is planned around the same time. Italy's Tornado withdrawal is a moveable feast, but as mentioned will ...

Re: Masters of the Air - USAF Mighty 8th in East Anglia
Trivia fact - the production crew were given unlimited access to the USAAF archives and the pilots post action logs for the making of this series. The CGI is so accurate that when you see an exterior formation shot, every B-17 they show is in the exact formation position on the day of the actual ra...

Re: US and Britain to conduct airstrikes
Just been looking at Google Earth and Yemen is more than 1500 miles from Akrotiri which if they did it, would make a 3000mile round trip. Would they have done that? Maybe no alternative. Eldorado Canyon was a round trip of 5000 miles because of lack of overflight permissions, so there is precedent....

Re: Tanker Trouble - Analysing the RAF's Tanker capability
Malcolm raises some crucial points. Airtanker has on several occasions suggested to the RAF to fit a boom, however I have no idea what the company would have charged for such an optional extra, plus there is also the cost of training to use it, and maintaining it, but the RAF said no. It could be ar...

Re: US and Britain to conduct airstrikes
From MoD: Four RAF Typhoon FGR4s, supported by a Voyager air refuelling tanker therefore used Paveway IV guided bombs to conduct precision strikes on two of these Houthi facilities. One was a site at Bani in north-western Yemen used to launch reconnaissance and attack drones. A number of buildings i...

Looking back - 2023 Review
As its increasingly unlikely I'll be able to get out of work before Christmas, so I thought I would be the first to post a retrospective picture thread from 2023, with shots from the UK and a little bit of travel to Turkey and the Middle East. Hope you like... https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/527...

Re: USAF EA-37B Updates
Italy too has a quite a few green G550 airframes purchased for several different missions including jamming, Sigint/Elint and AEW.
As for the armed question, the new Compass Call mission has an "electronic attack" role hence the EA designation but using its emitters to attack/damage enemy radars.

Re: NATO selects the E-7 as replacement for the E-3
The current plans call for the E-7s to replace the E-3s and form part of a broader system called AFSC which will do more than the AWACS does now, and use a mix of space-based and ground-based sensors and uncrewed aircraft to perform the same mission. The E-7s will become a component of that system, ...

Re: AFM - UK Defence Select Committee Report Article
The UK's interest in F-35 has waned in part due to the high cost of operating it, but also the struggle it has had getting UK-developed weapons onto the aircraft such as Meteor and the Spear 3 small cruise missile, it is one of reasons why the UK is going down the Tempest/GCAP route with Italy and J...
