Re: Telescopes

Another place to try is Viking at Halesworth in Suffolk. https://www.vikingopticalcentres.co.uk/ I’ve dealt with it them many times over the years. Their shop has good views out the front and they always have a selection of scopes already set up. They stock all the main brands plus their own Viking ...

Binoculars are more my thing but have a look here

https://www.firstlightoptics.com

They seem to have all prices and qualities available, I’ve never used them but occasionally have a browse around. Happy viewing.

Re: What on this green earth is happening

This made me smile earlier in the week https://www.edp24.co.uk/news/23244715.norfolk-us-military-planes-leave-contrails-gorleston/ Those six trails weren’t caused by the two tankers, I’m sure of that especially as the tankers were heading north over an hour before, I saw them just after 7am. The six...

Re: Tempest to fly faster than the speed of sound

Hurricane, Typhoon, Tempest, Tornado, etc
All named after types of wind.

The Japanese have a word that I can’t quite recall, it means ‘Divine Wind’ I think.
Perhaps someone could look it up so we can use it.
Tongue firmly in cheek.
Seasons greetings everyone.

Re: LAGR and QID callsigns

So Quid has been explained. Isn’t Lager (or however it may be spelt) German for camp ? Could this originate from US bases in Germany ? Perhaps a Tanker from another wing based (camping) at the hall. HOBO isn’t that someone who doesn’t have a home ? A tanker perhaps that isn’t based somewhere but ope...

Re: The General Question Thread

Thanks for the reply. It was just a breakfast time thought. However. If that was when they had ejection seat problems, that didn’t really ‘ground’ the whole fleet, I was thinking more of an engine/avionics/airframe problem where they’d all have to be inspected/corrected. Something else that sprang t...

Re: The General Question Thread

If, Typhoons were grounded due to technical issues (not inconceivable as various types get grounded regularly) what would take over QRA ? Are F35’s suitable, are they compatible with the QRA sheds and equipment, can they be airborne in the same timeframe ? Or Would one of our NATO neighbours assume ...

If it’s a copy you want fair enough. If you just want to read it then https://z-lib.org/ It’s a good source of unobtainable books. Not quite sure about the website but it’s been online for over a decade and I’ve used it lots. I usually go for an epub format and read on my iPhone (yep I prefer a book...

Mildenhall Crash (car not plane)

Saw this a day or two back on the local papers website but the video was so contaminated by adverts and crap that I didn’t bother to post it. God bless the BBC https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/uk-england-suffolk-63075105 A truly amazing escape. Even though there was no serious injury, that would really...

I’ve just read the ‘analysis’ link and I’ve got to say I’m impressed.
It’s amazing what can be sussed out from a single image.
Now if only someone had that ‘enhance’ feature like in the movies :-)

I never said it was

‘A question for you all, the fence in that photo looks like an RAF security fence’

Just answering a previous post.
I included myself in ‘all’ and I don’t really think it is a base fence either.

Re: Alleged UFO or UAP, 1990, Calvine, Scotland

I’m no fencer but for security shouldn’t the uppermost bit be barbed or razor wire ? The middle/lower run clearly is. The clumps on the top wire look a bit like the hair that cattle/horses/sheep leave when they hang their heads over which would also explain why this top wire is not barbed. But that ...

‘MADRAS would have been a Voyager, not a C-17 (often callsign BLACKCAT or GIANT in the past?’ You could well be right. Although I can’t remember a Blackcat or Giant call sign. Sometimes I’d watch it, sometimes I’d listen if I couldn’t get the time off. One year I waited until the first signs of acti...

Re: Queens birthday Flypast

If things run as usual……. First aircraft acting as the ‘leader’ used to be a C17 probably due to the fact that it has good fuel capacity and it was usually on station about 20 to 30 mins before things kicked off. Probably doing a weather check. I can’t remember the frequency but the call sign was Ma...

‘Body Jelly’
You should copyright that.
It sums up the sensation just about right.
It’s a bit like the Roadrunner cartoon where Wile E Coyote eats the Acme Earthquake Pills.
