Re: Inquiry re - date of last RAF Biggin Hill BoB At Home

1973
From 1974, the RAF selected four stations each September to mark the anniversary of the Battle of Britain. Abingdon, Finningley, Leuchars and St Athan. This remained the pattern throughout the 1980s.

Re: Queens fly past

I have to be in London babysitting in Kentish Town, and would like to see the birthday flypast on Saturday ,I am aware that the flypast follows the Strand, and the Mall coming in from the East. As its not feasible to travel any distance with a six month old baby, I would therefore appreciate advice ...

Re: Historical aviation images

The collection that is being discussed is a wonderful social document. Looking at the non aviation photographs it looks as if a number of them were taken in East Angla. Regarding the aviation images they are from several locations again around East Anglia , some certainly from Wethersfield and Milde...

Re: Any Questions Regarding F35s Whilst at Lakenheath ??

Is there any indication as to when the aircraft will return to the US? The original release from the DoD said several weeks.
Many thanks

Re: B-36 query

A postcript to my earlier note; The death of Joseph Stalin in March 1953 resulted in some nervousness by the UK and US governments. From April-Ocrober 1953, RAF Lakenheath was used by RB-36H aircraft of 9SRW then based at Travis AF. Seven aircraft were initially deployed and included 51-5747. The ai...

Re: B-36 query

Just to add to “StevieJaws” earlier comment: The early 1950’s were a period of expansion for the USAF in the UK. In connection with this, RAF Lakenheath, was expanded and hard stands for very heavy bombers (B-36) were built, they were also built at RAF Sculthorpe. However there was no intention to b...

Re: TC's

Echoing earlier posts, my experience with TC's has been mixed. A 1.4 will shift exposure by 1.4 stops and in poor light there will be some hunting, less so in good sunlight, Remember that adding a TC means adding more glass to your lens. Your post doesn't indicate what lens you are using, but if you...

Bridge camera for Safari?

A family member is to go on an African Safari. They only have a simple point and shoot camera, and the logistics of travel would make the use of a DSLR camera impractical. One option would be to use a Bridge but they are concerned about response speed and image quality. Any advice out there? Thanks Nh

Re: Which photo editing software?

You have several options: Adobe Photoshop CS5 is the most powerful and expensive, has many features that you may not need. Adobe Photoshop Elements 10 is a cut down version which would do for most things. Adobe Lightroom 3 is both a non destructive editing and cataloguing system Apple Aperture is a ...
