Re: UK Low flying 1970s, 1980s

Thanks John,I was at Shawbury for summer camp in the summer of '69 (somebody should write a song about that  ) - lucky boy to get a vamp trip - all I got was a chippie tri...

Re: UK Low flying 1970s, 1980s
In 1978ish I had a little series of low level Hawk back seat trips from Brawdy to Coltishall as prep for (as he was then) a Prince Charles Hawk trip from Brawdy to Colt.My role was to do turn rounds/refuel any attending Hawks, there had to be a QFI in the tower at Colt - so I always flew up with the ...

Reno/Stead 1994 and 1997
I never kept any diaries of holidays etc so some of these are from 1994 and some from 1997 (pre digital for me) I was over in California and Nevada for a holiday in 1994 and this fire was burning for the whole 3 weeks I was there - hence we start with some Douglas Tankers - they were in and out like...

Re: 616 Squadron.
None of them wearing Pilots Wings, but top button undone on battle dress would seem to indicate that they were fighter pilots. Curious. :S Just being the usual groundcrew 'scruffs' John  (as many of us were at least up until the 1980's) Actually their BD's look in fairly good condition ! I use...

Re: Dunsfold Miscellany
May I ask as of when this has been the case? I had read it had closed a few years ago (after Reg passed away, I seem to remember), but the museum was open last year (I visited April/May time). Apologies Prof - it looks like it was reopened,I should have double checked and not trusted 1 (undated) in...

Re: Vimy Replica - last flight from Dunsfold
Another nice record of the event there  Paddyboy  Many thanks PB :) Some interesting photos there - I hadn't appreciated G-PIGY (and G-BEOL too) had gone to Guyana (though it was reported in 2019) - that would explain why we haven't seen much of them in recent years. Glad you enjoyed ...

Vimy Replica - last flight from Dunsfold
In Nov 2009 a little bird told me that the Vimy was going to be moving from Dunsfold to Brooklands,so on the 15th Nov I 'just happened' to be visiting the aerodrome  I kept out of everybody's way but managed to safely get quite close to the Vimy a couple of times. The Vimy first did a local fli...

Re: Dunsfold Miscellany
I have just had a quick look online and the 'Spares Ship'/Christmas Tree Sea Hawk in the T8 picture is probably WV911 which apparently eventually went back to Yeovilton.Mustang531 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 22, 2024 10:34 amI note the Seahawk in one pic, I think that it's still there.
The 'Dunsfold Park' Sea Hawk is WV795.

That's a terrific view of life "at work", thanks baz.
