Astronomy Telescope Advice

Hi, my adult son wants to get into astronomy. We are complete novices and we don't even know what magnification would suit a beginner. My spotting scope (60×60) can get a great full screen view of the moon but is useless at anything further away. I don't trust info on Amazon ( based on frequent duff...

:REQ: 06.09.22

Hi, Question for a friend.
We visited the Wave, on the 6th Sept, and were unable to identify the two RC135s and a single Shadow. All were parked nose on. Did anyone manage to identify them? Thanks for any answers ( if any ).

Re: Korean C130s on route

I find it strange that the support equipment was, presumably, offloaded at Boscombe without a means of getting items to the display aircraft. What will be their plan if an engine needs replacing ( bring a C130 back or hire a truck?). Could be a long journey if needed "up North".

Re: F-35 viewing

This may be a stupid question but do they leave the aircraft under the sun shelters at weekends? I assume they are put away in hangars but, being bored at a weekend, could make a visit worthwhile.

Odd tail stripe

On 17th, whilst attempting to see the "SJ's" I noticed an odd F15 tail sticking up above buildings on the Alpha ramp. It was just the top half of the tail so the "LN" or "SJ" code was hidden. However, what was noticeable was that the red stripe was twice as large as normal . It did not have any whit...

Many thanks everyone. Sounds too risky for me this time. I'd better hope that their return home doesn't route via Rota!

Petrol Availability - Mildenhall

I'm getting tempted to visit for the SJ's. However, I'd have a long journey from Surrey. Fuel availability here is dreadful but is it readily available, to fill up, at Mildenhall?

Re: What counts as "Spotting" an aircraft?

I initially had a problem deciding how much of an aircraft needs to be seen to count it as seen.ie. If only tails are visible would that count? I eventually decided that if the tail is attached to the fuselage then I would log it. If however, the tail was detached and leaning on a wall it wouldn't b...

Re: Tucson Arizona - ANG F16's

Eyesight issues make using binos easier than a pole. I will be travelling light so not much room for both. I do have a Sony bridge camera, with 50x magnification, so maybe that is the answer. Just take loads of photos.

Re: Tucson Arizona - ANG F16's

Just one more thought. I have a good telescope but would rather travel light and only carry 20x50 binoculars. Can somebody confirm whether these are good enough or should I take my pole? Thanks again for all of your help.Cheers.

Tucson Arizona - ANG F16's

Hi, When we eventually sort this Covid out I intend visiting Davis Montham. Whilst there I would like to see the AZ ANG F16's at Tucson International. Now here is the problem! I am restricted to going during May. I have received advice regarding viewing locations but I am very concerned that heat ha...

Re: RIAT 2019: Arrivals

MM5057 doesn't exist so 7075 must be correct.
