Re: Chateaudun 050693

A couple of comments from my log: Mirage IIIE "514 or 574" was 514 (574 was marked '13-QF' and probably inside at that time - it went to GI at Rochefort). CM.170 "219" was actually 209 (219 was current with GE-315 as '315-QG' at the time). Elsewhere on the field was Mirage IIIR 304, though I cannot ...

The only date I found in my notes/log is 15.8.74 when it visited Upper Heyford with 104747/104751/104880.

Very nice set, thanks for sharing. Couple of typos I suspect: FA-18 CE-01 is 165684 (165864 is an F/A-18E) and we logged CH-53 164859 as YK-859 (not YN-).

Not aviation-related, but one of the best cryptic crossword clues I have come across was simply: GP (5)
[ie the answer is five letters long]
Enjoy!

Re: Davies Monthan

We used Double Eagle in September. Did a couple of circuits of AMARG/Pima etc and then two approaches at Marana/Pinal for the US Army choppers. Cost $375.

Re: REQ: Dax open day 18may2002

Additional notes from my log: ABF was 1193, in the Museum storage hangar. BBK was probably a mis-log of BDK in the farside hangars; 1388 from the base list, confirmed May-04. BCK = 1077 in Hangar H. BDB - there were two: one was 1129 in Hangar H, the other was 1675 in the Museum storage hangar. BDN ...

Love the 'Stars, but all cracking nostalgia. I first saw the Turk in it's former guise as 25+45 with JbG-34 at the Landsberg show Sept-1987..... Happy days. Thanks for sharing.

Re: SARO Seater - Dusseldorf Airport

It went to Schwenningen museum by 1988 and was still there Apr-16. Various editions of EW&R/EMOOS have no i/d other than it is c/n S2/6920 (and is "not XL762").

Not wishing to appear churlish but the a/c involved is reported to be RF-94159/35 red.

16560 would be 66- fiscal, almost certainly 22 AvnDet from Pirmasens.

No idea on the F-16 though - perhaps 80-0574 from Hahn?

F-15C 166 may be in brackets because you weren't able to positively i/d the serial - 86-0166 was marked up as "48th OG" at that time.

Re: F-84's on Pampa Range, Helchtern, Belgium

Courtesy of the latest edition of the excellent "EMOOS", the two are FU63/"BA56" and FU183/"BA06". The cockpit section of FU181/"BA02" went to Helvoirt/Vught [NL] by May 1999 and the rest of the a/c is thought to have long gone from Helchteren.

Re: Mildenhall April 1971

Bearing in mind the serial presentation, a simple case of mis-poled FY there then: 37793 = 21793 and 37851 = 21851. I logged both on 21.3.71 and 25.4.71. Afraid I wasn't there on 10 April.

Re: What made you laugh today?

I had seen a photo before but while on the road in rural Somerset I actually came up behind one of those slurry/septic tank clearance tankers marked "Stool Bus" which made I chuckle. Had to stop while he reversed into someone's driveway and noted the front of the vehicle was marked "The Only Way Is ...

Also barred from the Kings Head, Mildenhall - although it was better known as The Temporary Sign (I've never known a pub have a temporary sign for so long!). Things came to a head (no pun intended) when, as I recall, the conversation degenerated to a comparison of scars! This culminated in one who s...
