Re: Old sightings at Duxford museum
Looking at my photographs from Sunday 9th July 1989, when the HA.1112s and P-51Ds were being pulled from the hangar, I have them catalogued as follows: G-BOML marked '-+>', kill marks, swasticka, iron cross and roundel on tail G-HUNN marked ' -+14' only swasticka on tail D-FEHD marked '-+15', no swa...

Re: Lee-on-Solent Air Day's 1980 & 1981
Thanks for that explanation, it must be something to do with the old typewriter font used and subsequently converted to PDF.If you are going to copy and paste from Pdf's of old magazines you have to check that everything carried across correctly, it is not an exact science

It was a straight cut and paste I'm afraid, so 'original' typos included.such a shame about some of the typos amongst the serials though

RNAS Yeovilton - Friday 21 January
On Friday I made my first trip out to an airfield in 2022 with a visit to the fence at 'my local' Yeovilton. Being a Friday airfield hours were reduced with a 10am start and 3pm finish, and it appears that manpower and serviceability remain an issue for the Royal Navy - no ILS and no visiting aircra...

Re: My very first photo
The oldest surviving military photos in my collection date to the RAF Abingdon Battle of Britain at home day 1982, I would have been 13. I had been photographing military and civil aircraft with my parent's camera for probably 7-8 years previously (mainly Greenham Common Air Tattoos, SBAC Farnboroug...

Re: Navy Hawks
Thanks for that update. I was aware that their role was reprieved at the 11th hour, but only so much as becoming a temporary sub-section of 100sqn. Guess that changed as well. This didn't happen, they're still 736 NAS.

Re: Navy Hawks
736 NAS disbanded on 30th September 2021, with their pilots, aircraft and role being merged with 100sqn RAF, until itself disbands in 2022.

Re: Herky 61 Operating out of Brize
A couple of Herks from RS did the same last year with the same call sign, Hery 61. Yes, I have pictures of an RS Herc running in to SPTA on 1st December last year, albeit I noted the call-sign as Herky161 (but that may be a typo on my part). In the 'noughties' it was common for three-ship formation...

71-0291 was the YF-15A that first visited the show in 1974, in an air superiority scheme.

It was subsequently re-painted to the Centennial livery and displayed at the 1976 show.

Re: Whirlwinds in funny places - From RAF News Jan '67
Great photos.
I recall a Whirlwind being lowered from the Earls Court rafters at a Royal Tournament, and my log shows XP404 on 28th July 1984, along with Harrier GR1 XV279.
We went by coach from Reading, and it broke down going home!

Re: MOV: Yeovilton N119MA
From a photo seen from someone on the fenceline, it's N116MA, an 'aggressor' Learjet of Skyline. Maybe visiting the based NATO JEWCS to borrow a pod, as occasionally do AvDef and Draken Falcon 20s.

It's great that these pictures, taken on a grey day, bring back so many memories. It was my only Finningley BoB Display as I usually went to Leuchars for the Phantoms and F3s.

ADSB showing AW139 G-CLPG pinging from Yeovil to Lands End and a Google search shows it in a red and white scheme. There is also a Red & White AW149/69 type, but I can't see enough of the serial. Pretty sure it's G dash though.

Re: BoB Finningley '92 - a weather wipe out!
It was a cracking line-up and despite the gloom the static shots came out ok. What scanner are you using bud? I'm using a Nikon LS50 and the Vuescan software/driver. After many years of use the circuitry stopped working last year and finding a second hand one on eBay looked quite costly. Thankfully ...
