Re: Old Grey Ladies @ Lossiemouth

That formation pic is aviation history gold. I was lucky enough to attend the viewing for the auction of them when the MoD sold them off in '91 (on the strength of buying a catalogue for the auction from Sothebys - which entitled one to admission to RAF Waddington in order to view them). It was the ...

IAT '77 - Greenham Common

Having just begun scanning my slide collection I thought this set from the 1st. IAT I attended, @ Greenham Common, back in 1977, maybe of interest. Altho' the Tiger Meet was the main theme there was a wonderful selection of Navy a/c as carriers from the US and Australia were visiting the UK and a nu...

Excellent set. Just wondering from your handle which team you support, the Magpies or the Black Cats?

Re: RAAF Amberley

Nice pics shame about the subject. I'm with Paddyboy on this. I know beauty is in the eye of the beholder and all that but the F-35 looks like its been designed by a committee and so should have been named the Camel -after all when the airbrake's out it does look like a hump!

Re: TLP 2018-4 at Amendola [LIBA]

Nice backdrop + lighting on some of the pics. Favourite has to be the 36 Stormo Typhoon. Proof yet again that the F-35 is not a particularly photogenic aircraft (understatement).

Liking the pics of the Vulcan + Lightning in the moonlight but afraid the paint scheme on the Phantom just does nt look right altho I appreciate that it's unfinished. Intended to be in Treble One mks by the looks of it.

Re: Alconbury Air Tattoos 1983 - 93 (Updated to incl '92))

Only 2 squadrons of A-10's, the 509th and the 511th, moved in from Bentwaters in '88 leaving the 92nd and 511th remaining there while the 78th and 91st stayed at Woodbridge. The 2 WR's at the show came from Bentwaters where the last A-10's left the 81stFW in March'93. Thanks for that Graham. I'd pr...

Re: Alconbury Air Tattoos 1983 - 93 (Updated to incl '92))

It is interesting to note that the A-10s on static display in '92 were still wearing Woodbridge/Bentwaters tailcodes 4 yrs. after relocating to Alconbury (indeed the partner of that shown still carried 81 TFW mks). According to the programme notes the A-10s had already left the base, and returned to...

See what you mean Darren. Just going downstairs to dry out. That Bone Reluctant Dragon certainly got about. Think it was @ the Hall the same year. That must have been just about the last time BT F15s + UH Aardvarks were seen at Shows so thanks for posting.

Just to complete the BAF Mirage V coverage here are some '80s pics of 1 + 2 Sqn. examples which are quite rare as both units had converted to the F-16 by the mid '80s. https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4806/46234371371_b2b85db517_b.jpg Mirage V - BA33 1 Sqn. Re: Alconbury Air Tattoos 1983 - 93 (Updated)

Great thread F3 - shots of the SR-71 and TR-1 (U-2) in the original post are brilliant - thanks for posting these up Update is also great - the F-101 voodoo is fantastic as are the TJ F-16 (always good with ground crew) and again U-2 Only made one show at Alconbury in 1993 - you O.K. if I stick a c...

Re: Alconbury Air Tattoos 1983 - 93 (Updated)

Obviously missed it then. May have gone to Humberside instead, which I note clashed with it, but returned in '86 having discovered which was better value. For my money '84 was the best Tattoo I ever attended due mainly to the great weather, the SR-71 (which was nothing ever topped) and the strong sh...

Thanks for the info Graham. Often wondered why the SJ F-4s were there. Do you know if there was a show in '85 as I have no photos from that year? (Perhaps they were relaying the runways).

Alconbury Air Tattoos 1983 - 93 (Updated to incl '92))

Although I attended various USAF Open Houses the one most frequented was Alconbury which was the most accessible being only a couple of hours down the A1 from God's Own. The first, in '83, was dominated by Phantoms the resident RF-4Cs being supplemented by a pair of F-4Cs from Seymour Johnson which ...

Re: Finningley Airshow Arrivals - '80s

The F3 was one of the quartet that flew around the world on Ex Golden Eagle the following year. If you would like some Mirage V images I'd be happy to help out as I've got lots. They always sent 1 or 2 to Finningley.
