Fairford RIAT 1998
With a theme of Reconnaissance and a commemoration of the Berlin Airlift, 1998 brought in some interesting visitors. Perhaps not the biggest or best remembered of the giant shows of the 1990s, it had its moments, with rarities ranging from Ukrainian Air Force Tu22M3 and An72, splinter Czech MiG21 an...

Re: 20 years ago....RIAT 2004
Cracking stuff Kev.
Overall it was a quieter IAT than what we had become accustomed to during the 90s, but when you look back there was still so much variety to see. Loving the F-117 shots and the Mirage IV. Lithuanian L39 was probably the rarest aircraft on show that year.

Re: NATO 50th Ann cplour schemes - 1999
The Dutch turned up at RIAT with two as above plus two from 313sqn also with NATO 50th markings (an A and a B). The committee had stickers waiting to apply to the Belgian and Norwegian examples to join the Dutch and Danish on the runway for the grand finale flanking the Sentry. they left with the st...

2326 is stunningly beautiful and making the gold one look a little plain. Stunning collection of pics of a beautiful aircraft, I'm glad I saw some at Waddington using the range.

Waddington 1999 airshow
As we are on 1999, oddly this was the first of the Waddington show's I attended. I think some may have coincided with the Dutch show/Koksijde weekends hence non attendance until then! https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50510805337_e92f71336e_b.jpg Su27P 595 Gromov Flight Research Institute ...

Re: Dutch Serial Long Shot
Only thing I'd say about C-3, was it was one of the F-27-100 versions, so it wouldn't have been a display aircraft. It did visit IAT in 1991 for example, if it was a show reference.

Re: Fairford RIAT 1999
That must have been the only UK Airshow which took place that Year? If memory serves me.. Was due to go to Mildenhall and Leuchars but both cancelled....... Waddington hosted a pretty decent show with the Test Pilots Flankers, Voltige Victor, Mirage 2000, Viggen, Turkish F-4Es etc. Not sure about Y...

Fairford RIAT 1999
After seeing Michael's post it brought back flashes of what was a truly colossal show to end the 1990s glut of aircraft at the big shows at Fairford and Boscombe Down. The aerial photo of the static at the western end in 1999 published in the 50 years of Tattoo book emphasises the wealth of types st...

Glad you put up the 90th tail Tony, I never got a chance of that one. Did it ever fly with the tail painted or was it only ever a static frame?

They got a really good selection in there, Xingu and EC135 being the stand outs for me, very nice selection Kev.

Re: 6 Sqn. (The Flying Can Openers) reach 110
At the end of January 6 Sqn., known as 'The Flying Can - Openers' celebrated its 110th Ann. at Lossiemouth by taking delivery of Jaguar airframe XX119 in the iconic Leopard print paint scheme applied in 2007 to mark the type's retirement from RAF service. Well done for highlighting the anniversary....

Re: Royal International Air Tattoo 2024 General Discussion Thread
From memory the Snowbirds Tutor doesn’t have the range. So it’s logistics impossible even to island hop. Too expensive to ship them, talk of them coming back in 2018 ish. There was talk somewhere they can’t use ferry tanks? They mange to get across Canada and to US shows so not sure how much truth ...

And the pilot probably has his name sewn into the back of his pants as well, but I'm certain Dan knows what I'm referring to.
