Re: Top Guns Inside The RAF

I suppose its quite good its on at all – Its some planes on the telly but if it is aimed at a very middle of the road interest/engagement level its quite blooming boring. I doubt its a great recruitment tool for the RAF as everything comes across as well, plodding. Its got that tendency to make ever...

Re: Recent Movements at RAF Mildenhall & Lakenheath

Heh S51 remember that Sculthorpe visit well. We got on the base for a photo day and just walked around em without a great deal of supervision. It was brilliant. Have got some colour slides I took somewhere in the loft. Classic old Nam camo and white codes/serials. Was lucky to see the Virginia Air G...

Thanks Mike – was blissfully unaware there were any F-18's over here! Might take a little trip up to Waddo Thursday. Cheers.

Re: 2 x F-18's

Mmmmmm good call.
We never get any low level mil jet traffic over here so a bit of a strange one.
Plenty of Apaches if you like that sort of thing...

Re: Robin Hood Doncaster to close.

Have to say teeonefixer was always sickened by what we ended up with there. Got properly interested mid 70's and the thought of Vulcans pounding the tarmac before the Varsities and Dominies of 6FTS always stuck in the throat a bit. How did those Varsities get off the ground? They were like a great s...

Re: Robin Hood Doncaster to close.

Bit sad this one with that lovely flat whacking big runway closing. Grew up in the 60's 3 miles away and as a nipper Vulcans seemed pretty much in the circuit 24 hours a day – my mum always said they were doing circuits and bumps...

Re: Vulcans at Finningley

Thanks on the '77 film NAM. Not seen that before. Remember it well especially the German based Harriers who came for a couple of weeks before the show to practice. Dead glamorous for Finningley! Didn't the 4 x vulcans sequence go wrong on the day and the something like the 4th got off the pan before...

Re: Vulcans at Finningley

Thanks very much chaps on the info – much appreciated. I was a nipper right through 60's and my school was under the circuit at Finno. Went to the first BOB in a push chair and saw plenty of the mock scrambles for the airshow. Think the flying always kicked off with it. Got more seriously into the p...

Vulcans at Finningley

Would anybody have any recollections or info on Vulcans deployed to Finningley? Can't remember real dates but maybe around 1980. Mum & dad lived 3 miles from Finno and remember 4 Vulcans from 35 Squad on 2 separate occasions flying from Finno for a week, usually at night cos you hear the racket. Pre...

Tracking

This might have been discussed before but I can't find. There looks to be some great tracking sites posted on here – anybody got recommends that are also Apple Mac compatible. Don't have PC. I've got ADS-BExchange but the recent ones tracking Bones out of Fairford look far superior. Cheers.

Re: B-1Bs light the burners

In a super slick world of 14K and HD its easy to get seduced by technical brilliance.
Your film saint proves the heart still rules. Absolutely brilliant. Top notch.

DOD Defense Mapping Agency Large Maps

Hello – I used to have a few 70's / 80's period Department of Defense US Defense Mapping Agency Nav Maps. Very large with lots of of very tech nav stuff and graphics. I somehow lost them in various house moves and was trying to find anyone who might still sell them. They were great looking things. I...

Re: A10 65 Field access

From what I understand here its going into the actual field where the line is crossed? I parked on a little pull in near the visitors pan and could see all the SJ's from the verge without a ladder. OK I'm 6ft and was stood on a bit where the ground rises but it was OK. Didn't go in the field and par...

Re: Starwars Canyon

Vic – I was on the West coast 25th to the 5th Oct and nearly went across in that period. How much traffic do you get on average each day? I bottled it as didnt want to drive 750 mile round trip to get a couple of C-130's. The pics are great but what kind of blank periods do you get? Cheers

Re: Lakenheath 12-10-17

Presumably the bay doors jammed open would render them 'unstealthy' Seems like quite a glitch.
Not sure in all the radio traffic this morning when they were coming back in but might have been reported as a Code 1 by the pilot?
