Re: Bentwaters AFD 1971 - a couple of pictures

Nick B To put some context on the F-4K photo we were only at Bentwaters for a couple of hours (0900-1100) in the morning before heading off to Upper Heyford Show. I can't remember seeing any flying display and so I assume the picture is shortly after it arrived. Since it was parked near the Thunderb...

Bentwaters AFD 1971 - a couple of pictures

From Bentwaters AFD in June 1971. It was only a small show with most of the action at Upper Heyford AFD the same weekend. Here's two pictures from the event https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53499817246_b2c07f76d6_h.jpg 1971 EGVJ 66-0302 by Yorker , on Flickr https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53...

Great photos and fashion content!

As I recall Keflavik Connies always used the same callsign when coming to the UK - 'Adola 01'.

Finningley 1969 Norwegian F-5s

Following all the recent discussions on best Finningley BoB days, here are some scans of the Norwegians present in 1969. Although not as defect free as Yunglee's scans, I hope the subject matter is of interest https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53456952053_e8ea40a610_h.jpg 1969 EGXI F5 9 by Yorker ...

Re: RAF Finningley airshow 1969

Fantastic quality of pictures from that era. Thanks for posting. And interesting comments on the scanning technique using a macro lens rather than a scanner. As confirmed above, they're definitely the 1969 show. I've got some very scratchy old black and whites of the same Lightning plus the Norwegia...

Re: Mallet Blow exercises ??

Andyph, We were at Wiley Sike by one of the radars they'd set up for the exercise . We could see the E3 and CAP to the south. As soon as the radar started to move we kept a look out for attacks. As DickFlute has indicated there were over 100 aircraft on Spadeadam during the day and it was pretty dif...

Re: Mallet Blow exercises ??

DickFlute Thank you for sparking my memory. I was at Spadeadam on the glorious 1st August 1990. Everything you noted came through Spadeadam. We were on the road past Wiley Sike. In addition to your list we noted early doors mission 301 2 RAF Tornado at 0902 mission 302 Single German RF4E at 0911 mis...

Re: June 3rd 1973, Chateaudun

A piece of trivia re these excellent photos. Skyraider 124143 (pictured in the hangar) is still flying as F-AZDP. It is based at La Ferte Alais and usually takes part in their annual display. It was in US Navy markings last time I saw it, marked as 'RM-205'

I first saw AT-160 at Finningley BoB in September 1988. BARG and Scramble lists also confirm its presence in 1988.

Re: Biggin Hill 1967

Air Britain Digest from November 1967 reviews all the RAF BoB days in some detail. They list static displays plus the 'tourists' that flew over several bases (as was common at the time). Most of the 'tourists' in 1967 that flew over Biggin Hill also displayed at Abingdon and quite often Coltishall. ...

Re: Canon R7 focusing

Have your friend check out a few of the videos on setting up Canon R5/6/7 for 'Birds in Flight'. They go into all the details re mechanical/electronic shutters, focus points, camera menu settings to the optimum level. What they usually suggest is setting the back buttons for different focus techniqu...

Re: Shackleton's scrapyard, Siddal, Halifax, 1979

The 7th edition of W&R (March 1980) has some limited information on the Siddal Yard. He confirms the numbers you've identified with the addition of bits of Victor XA922 and Lightning fuselage XP757. He also states the yard stopped aeronautical scrap in 1977 which may help you in your research.. BARG...

Re: Singapore Scooters

I remember talking to a Singaporean at Cazaux show one year. I asked why they never went to any shows in the UK. Apparently the authorities had strict rules. Whilst they didn't mind them appearing at French shows, they weren't allowed to go outside France. Two are preserved in France 941 at Montelim...

Re: Phabulous Phantoms - USAFE - Part 5

Reading through BARG 1976 there's quite a lot of info on the 9 uncoded jets that came through East Anglia June-August 1976 74-1056/57/58 were all delivered to Bentwaters on 28/6/76. They all left by the end of August and were all noted as HR coded by end of September early October. The remaining 6 w...

Re: 81ST TFW F-4D QUESTION

To add to the discussion re Karup and the 1985 TAM. BARG reports 4 SP Phantoms taking part 74-1053,74-1638,69-(7)263 and 69-7556. I've photo evidence of 4 SPs at Karup on 29/5/85 which were 74-1053, 74-1638, 69-7556 and 69-(x)293 yellow fin tip. Could the report of '263' possibly be a misprint for '...
