ICOM IC-R6 Scanner For Sale - SOLD

IC-R6 - I purchased this second hand through one or other online forum but I've never really used it and don't expect I ever will. It is in good working condition, with antenna, charging base and charger - although it is currently fitted with disposable batteries. The belt clip and lanyard are unuse...

Re: Back in the Day - Fast Jet Fest @ Ch. Fenton

Probably not that common but it was always a toss up between maximising the number of bombs vs carrying enough fuel. This was all pre-GW1 so not much tanking and mostly low level bombing. Centreline stores created some handling limitations, so the day-to-day fit was 2 tanks on the inboards and CBLS ...

Re: Back in the Day - Fast Jet Fest @ Ch. Fenton

Ref the Jaguars - they are CBLS (Carrier Bomb Light Stores) on the centreline pylon. The recce pod (of those days) could only be carried on the centre line - or there was a centreline pylon which could take 2 stores in tandem, eg bombs or CBLS, or a single fuel tank. Those aircraft each have 2 CBLS ...

Re: Red Arrows in Turmoil ?

Yes, makes you wonder. Looking at his CV, he has flown the Hawk before - presumably with 100 Squadron, did a year as Red 10 as commentator, but doesn't say he's actually done a tour in the formation. He did 4 seasons as 10, from 2018 - 2021, and was planned to take over as CO well before the latest...

Re: 1960's photos - Where and When?

The others do look like Farnborough. The Lancaster is with a Spitfire and a Hurricane, and the Vulcan looks to be the Olympus test bed - either for TSR2 or for Concorde I suppose.

That's a baggage pod on 239 - an empty gun pod effectively. Makes it look similar but it is a non-smoker.

Re: Hobbyboss 1:48 hawk, 63SQN RAF Chivenor

Very nice. The CBLS were carried by the T1As - it is just that they could also carry sidewinders, but CBLS were still very much in use on the range. Time-wise, those are early ejection seat head boxes - all changed to the narrower head boxes in the mid-late 80s, so the dates are good. BTW, I was als...

Wow, what a fantastic set of pictures these have been. It will be a shame to see them end - I have looked forward to each one in the series being posted.

Re: USAF Tailcodes question

To a degree, yes, and I think back in the 80/90's this was more apparent as they made an effort to use the jet who's serial ended with the Wing/Squadrons number. However in the last 20 years or so this has not been the case. When there were so many aircraft to choose from, I guess there was always ...

Again, its a long time ago, but I think the > scale on the left is angle of attack - with the double dots at 12 degrees ?? But it will look the same, as more AOA will produce more G - up to a point!

Re: HUD symbology help

From memory, but from a previous iteration, 1. The vertical 'lubber' line shows aircraft heading (usually true but selectable to magnetic). The inverted V is the aircraft track - ie the direction it is travelling across the ground. The horseshoe shows that the aircraft needs to turn to the right to ...

Re: Valley flying hours / block leave

In all my time there has never been any 'block leave' at Valley - or at any other RAF units I have experienced, other than the Christmas break and a slightly more specific mid-season break for the display assets. Flying training is pretty much round the clock but with reduced numbers overall there c...

Hi
What time will they be leaving fairford on Sunday?
I would like to see them but i cant be there for the arrival!
Yes, 17:35 for the departure home, but also 14:06 departing for Silverstone, so if you were there for that you could see them coming back at 14:54 as well.

Re: Lake District Low Level.

Getting a bit out of touch now, and there is a LOT less low flying everywhere, but we did go that way several times. It is a good bit higher over that pass than elsewhere, eg Dunamil, so often not passable due to weather, which means it is less likely to be planned unless you know it is going to be ...

Re: Red Arrows 18th July

Obviously depends on what you are using it for but the absence of a warning that far out doesn't mean nothing is happening, just that it hasn't been inputted, or approved, yet. The RAFAT transit only appeared today I think.

Re: Red Arrows 18th July

NATS AIS will show beyond 7 days (provided the NOTAM has actually been promulgated) but it will ask you to confirm if it is more than 7 days ahead. Airport searches will produce airfield warnings, which are to do with the operating capability etc, the navigation warnings are shown under the appropri...

Re: Leeming Station Ex April '98

Checking my logbook, I can see a Hawk sortie marked as 'Stn Ex' on 20 March in XX325 and I did fly 289, which looks suspiciously like the photo above, on the same day - and again a couple of times in the week before Easter, all on bounces - but with no further mention of any exercise-related work in...
